This was my late husbands veg patch.... Seed sown last spring.

You would be surprised at the selection of plants and colours.

This is just a little part of it.

Thank you........ Did you spot the very dark cornflower. I have never seen that colour before..

Jo.

springcross profile image
springcross in reply to Buzzytruk

Are you in the US? They are very common here in the UK. I grew them for years - they were the original cornflower (well I'm pretty sure they were), then came the pink, white and mauve. xx

Buzzytruk profile image
Buzzytruk in reply to springcross

Hi..... 😊.. No, am in the UK....... (Tulip and Daffodil growing area.)

Cornflowers have tended to be various shades of blue and pink.

We had them in the garden on and off for years, but never saw

a flower so dark a colour.

Is that little campanulas I see too?

Buzzytruk profile image
Buzzytruk in reply to springcross

No, sorry that's not included. There's six perennials to come.

I added a few native marigolds in various shades of yellow to deep gold.

There's at least three different poppies. Several I added.

But I am not certain which is which with some varieties....

Jo. 😊

What are the little blue bells called? They are very pretty. xx

Galloping profile image

Could be harebells.

springcross profile image
springcross in reply to Galloping

You are absolutely right - just found out on Wikipedia Campanula rotundifolia, the harebell or Scottish bluebell. Beautiful.

Buzzytruk profile image

Will add details of the seed mix shortly, it's in the garden shed....

Buzzytruk profile image
Buzzytruk in reply to springcross

Hi...... Got my list........

various *garden Poppy, Corn Poppy.

native *Marigolds, Corn cockle..... . Corn flower mixed.

Ox eye daisy....... Corn Chamomile.

The blue flower is in one of those varieties.

This year should have.... , Meadow buttercup.. . Ladies bedstraw.

Meadow sweet..* Foxglove mixed.* Scabious.........

The *is next to the extra types I have added.

Hope this helps.

Jo.... 😊

springcross profile image
springcross in reply to Buzzytruk

Thanks for that BT, but I think Galloping is right - it's Harebells -

Campanula rotundifolia, the harebell or Scottish bluebell - got that from Wikipedia, the picture is identical to your blue flower bells (even the buds). I must get some seeds, they are so dainty and I love the colour. You must have some rogue seeds in your packet - lucky you! xx

Hi Buzzy.

That is beautiful. Did you rough up the area and throw seeds down. I’d like to create a meadow too.

❤️ Thank for sharing the photo!

Buzzytruk profile image
Buzzytruk in reply to Poodie

Thank you 😊😊...... The local chap who help me with the heavy work, which was digging out the old parsnips and leeks and other odd bits,

Levelled it and raked over that was all, the seed sown and you have

seen the results. It's all greening up again so am hoping for an even

better show if that's possible. Although there's a few large weeds to

get rid of.

this type of seed......in Lincolnshire , near Boston.

Its called " "Gardeners double delight." "" a mix of annual and perennial seed. Plus I added a few favourites .......

It was not hard to do at all, just raked level and old veg removed. Then seed sown. The flowers went on till Oct /Nov.

The tops and dead stalks were just raked off, leaving any seed behind.

I have a few weeds to remove now... that's all.

Thinking about your garden., have you thought of planting up a trough or large pots. I had a lot more seed than I needed. 120gm.

but we saw the effect. Just wondering how much seed you will have in the packet.... Maybe a container will give you the same results as mine..... Just a thought. Good luck.....

I’ve just received a pack of wild flower seeds to be sewn mid Apr to end May or late Aug- mid Sept!

Will hopefully be the latter as hoping to move from my upper floor flat to a bungalow!

That is if this Covid-19 allows this to happen!

Yes, after the old veg and large weeds were pulled out.

The ground was levelled with a rake, so it was quite rough.

Then on went the seed. As you see a little too much,

but I was delighted with the results. It just kept flowering and was Oct/Nov when raked over to remove dead stalks etc leaving any new seed behind. This year should be better as there is at least

6 different perennials still to come.

Jo.... 😊😊
