I had a flare up of PMR, went up to 10mg of pred from 6 1/2mg. I decided to come down gradually. 1/2mg ever 2 weeks. I have been on 10mg for 2 weeks. After reading some new comments. Does anyone know if it is better that maybe I should come down 1mg every 2 weeks.

Regards

Hello Beunavista

No, to reduce by 1mg every two weeks would be too large a reduction at this stage. Just 1mg drops are generally recommended below 10mgs, remaining at each new dose for a good four weeks. Some people find they need to reduce even more slowly at this stage and do just half mg drops every four weeks.

Have just seen my Dr today about my PMR - she says only reduce 1mg per month (if taking above 10mg) and not to reduce again until blood tests show the inflammation is still on the way down - mine has "stabilised" so she tells me I must stay on 11mg for now or will risk the pain coming back. I am quite new to this but the last few reductions have been ok once the first week is over when I have felt a little "different" and slightly out of sorts with an inkling of aches/tiredness. Can see my face is looking fatter... and have put on a few pounds... However, a small price to pay to get rid of the pain.
