Is there a connection between pmr and thumb pain?

Hi albatross,

I suppose the answer is 'yes' in theory. Swelling in the shoulders can cause pain in the arms by putting pressure on nerves and tendons. I too have had pain in my thumb which included a strange tingling sensation. It lasted for a few weeks and has gradually subsided and my left thumb now feels mostly normal again.

Many people with PMR have pain in their joints which often include hands and feet.

If I am having a day when I feel more tired then I tend to get more achy and my knees and elbows feel sore. Today is one of those days, but yesterday was a good day and I did far too much work. Tomorrow I'm sure I'll be ok again.

Many thanks for replying, this is the first time I have done anything like this!!! I am almost afraid to say anything extra has gone wrong to family and friends because I just seem to go from one thing to another. You have given me comfort in knowing that somebody else has it and that hopefuly it wil get better. Again many thanks, being on my own is not easy.

Since developing PMR I have had pain in my hands - particularly around the thumb joints - as well as sudden cramping of all of the joints in my hands. It seems to go - pardon the pun -'hand in hand'- with this disorder! Without the steroids I tell myself it would be much worse even tho it is unpleasant. Hope the pain eases for you. As I said to Pats above many thanks for replying, it is a great comfort. Steroids do have their down sides and I have reduced the dose and then had to go back up three times so this time I am folowing the advice given on this site and am doing it very slowly at MY OWN PACE not the general nhs way. Again many thanks and take care of yourself, you know what they say "you're worth it" .

Hi there. It's quite common for people with PMR to have 'synovitis' in their hands, and even carpal tunnel syndrome.
