I had my appointment with my endo this afternoon. My recent blood tests show me to be in the prediabetes range. My hba1c is 43. I am so glad that I have read helpful information already on the forum and realise that is only just in the range and I have the chance to address it before it gets any worse. Thank you to everyone who posts and shares experiences which help the rest of us. I am to be referred for a basal cortisol test when my pred level gets down between 4 and 2 so a little while to go yet. He is happy with my slow taper.

Prediabetes

Dear Groggrim💐Very sorry to hear this new development.
It is great it's been noticed early and you can adjust your lifestyle.
I would recommend a cgm. It is such a very useful tool.
I'm on my third one. I would like to use them regularly but it would be expensive for me to fund.
Abbott have free samples but I'm not sure what the requirements are to get one.
Sending a gentle hug x
Thank you for your kind post. There has been a lot of autoimmune diabetes in my family, grandfather, two aunts, mother, cousin, so it is not unfamiliar to me. Mum had hers so well controlled the doctor said her levels were far better than a lot of his non diabetics. I will follow her example as I remember it 🙂
To lower my blood glucose if it creeps up, I run up and down the stairs three times. This always helps. When I say run I mean a slow ascending and descending but faster than my usual walk!
6 months ago I too was in the Prediabetes range - quite a shock at the time. . However with some simple changes to diet as often discussed on this forum, I am now at 38. It works, even at aged 83.
Good luck with this and stick with it like your mum.
I was in the predicates range too I had been for a while and felt terrible then I found keto It changed it completely ...I have stayed on it for over 2 years now and feel fantastic ...so I'm Keto for life...
I had this, too…six weeks on the Keto diet, then low carb, & id reduced it. Mine was 45. You can do it!
I also got from prediabetic to high end of normal by reducing carbs. My husband scored 54😮 and also manaed to get his blood sugar back to normal by cutting out carbs(in his case: Danish pastries!)
Well this is reassuring. I have cut out my snacks today and had less carbs and I feel more awake. Such a small adjustment would make such a difference. Maybe the sunshine also helps but my low grade depression is even lower today 🙂
Cutting out snacks could be too hard or depressing. I just substituted the carb-rich snacks for more virtuous ones - mainly nuts and popcorn (without butter) but also a little dark chocolate. Being as the first two are high in protein, they keep you from feeling hungry for longer. After all, it is probably only carbs you need to worry about, and not calories.
Thanks, that's helpful. I snack on nuts anyway as I love them especially almonds and cashews. Hubby always has a bar of dark chocolate on the go as it is his treat of choice. Perhaps if I ask very nicely he will let me have a square. I also love litttle oranges, clementimes and satsumas but I'm not sure about the sugar so only have half at a time.
No, calories don't bother me, not since I was a teenager, as I don't seem to carry too much weight, like my mum and her sister. Pred's added a bit of weight but not an unmanageable amount.
I successfully used the Keto type diet to reduce to prevent crossing into diabetes. I've been on Prednisone almost 7.5 years. Down to 6mg with aid of Actemra 8 months. You can do it.

I was 5 years ago this Easter, I just gave up chocolate and sweets and my levels went back to normal range and still are x
