I have booked for a booster Covid jab on the basis that as Preds increases vulnerability it is a sensible thing to do. And then I thought, er…but is it? Mrs GnT has decided to participate partly based on her unpleasant experience with statins
Although this must have been discussed before I just wondered what the general feeling is about Covid jabs and Preds.

Others with more knowledge will be along, but I have always had the covid vaccinations on offer to me, regardless of the dose of prednisolone I've been taking at the time.
Last year, I had to pay for the extra Spring booster privately as I had a reaction to a previous Moderna vaccine and thus needed to source Pfizer.
No one around my area was offering it though and my GP wouldn't complete the necessary document that would allow a designated pharmacy to source it for me on the NHS.
It's a long story, but suffice it to say, my GP insisted that I didn't fit the criteria stipulated in the 'Green Book' that would make me eligible for it!
I have experienced no side effects from Pfizer (or previous Astra Zeneca) vaccines.
I personally want to feel as protected as possible.
I may still contract it, but if I do, then the hope is I won't be as ill having been vaccinated.
Obviously, there will be others with opposing opinions, and I fully respect that.
You must make up your own mind too and do what feels right for you.
My PMR was triggered by Covid. The Covid was mild and I was vaccinated, but due another jab. I read up about Covid and the vax. There is an association between both and PMR onset, but the risks of PMR for Covid were higher than for the vax and so I had mine and will do so again. The consensus was less clear about having 2 vax at the same time eg covid and flu. So I declined to have both. I was fine after the vax, just a week into a 20mg dose of pred.
I would not and didn't have the 2 vaccines at the same time for the logical reason that, in the case of problems, you won't know which one is implicated.
You will probably get a variety of answers - some pro some against.
My view is go for it, you are more at risk of getting Covid through your underlying illness and age grounds. And although some do seem to flare after a vaccination [any vaccination , not just Covid] surely that’s better than risking a serious reaction to the virus itself. As Kendrew has said it’s not a 100% guarantee you won't still get, but it will certainly be a lot less severe..
if you search on Covid vaccinations or similar, you will see many responses. Every time the govt announces a booster, this forum has many posts on the subject. I am vulnerable due to other diseases I have, but am down to 1mg pred. I’m not old enough this year, but my husband has recently been hospitalised with pneumonia (again), so I may pay privately again (around £80). Each person will have their own set of circumstances & make a decision based on them!
thank you all for the responses, I will be going for it.
Also had a bit of luck, my neighbour has kindly leant me his mothers electric chair so, despite my ruptured Achilles tendon & the huge plastic boot fitted by the fracture clinic I will be able to get to the surgery under my own steam. Hooray
Throughout Covid and additional boosters, flu and pneumonia jabs...and shingles~~~regardless of my roller-coaster doses of pred over these years, I have taken each one. Personally, I never felt any extreme negative effects. Here in the States, they really push for anyone with an autoimmune issue to be vacinated; especially if you are a senior. Guilty~! 💞
I have had every jab I have been offered - fewer than in the UK as I live in Italy. I've discussed it with the doctor in the local department for such things and he is really impressed that I went back for more after I had an increase in atrial fibrillation after the bivalent one 2+ years ago and was adamant it was the right thing to do. It was the only one that has ever caused a problem - the next one had no effect, not even a sore arm! And I have not yet knowingly had Covid.
Yes, it just seems sensible to me particularly when we have the vulnerability we get from the Preds. Long before the PMR I caught covid, despite the jabs, but it simply gave me an extremely runny nose for just 2 days so I was lucky then but you never know now. Trust the fibrillation has got better
I'm not on Pred at the moment, but for the four plus years I was, starting in June 2020 I have had all the PMR and Flu jabs with no problem at all. I have my next Covid jab on Wednesday next week.
