Thank you for the excellent webinar with Prof Dasgupta yesterday - next time could he look at screen so we can hear better? I asked a question that wasn’t passed to him. He showed pictures of blood vessels for GCA and LV - in PMR - are the blood vessels in the muscles affected like that please?

Inflammation

They don't know - if, then it is the very tiny capillaries in the muscles and it is difficult to look for the swelling or discrete patterns of inflammation. Personally, I think it is a fault in the mitichondria, the powerhouses of the cells, but to investigate that they would have to do muscle biopsies on patients - and doctors seem reluctant to ask them to do it!
I agree the sound was pretty bad. I could hear a few words clearly and then some totally blurred. Of course no one could tell him.
As soon as I joined I mentioned it on the chat in the hope Sophie might interrupt and tell him. She did during the questions but it was a bit late. I switched on the captions - and had a hearty laugh at some!! I had a pretty good idea what the worst bits should have been but even so ...
The thing was Sophie was SO clear. I wonder if his equipment or line had a problem?
Not sure where he lives - rural internet can have its moments!! I had just finished a teams meeting with my architect and daughter - his had a few freezes but nothing like Dasgupta's. I often find him a bit difficult to understand in presentations so I suspect his diction contributes and he was far better when he faced the computer that had the microphone. I thought Sophie was speaking particularly slowly and clearly. Humphrey at the AGM left a bit to be desired too - experience at remote contacts maybe?
I suppose I got the gist of it on the other hand.
A lot I thought was well above the heads of at least half the audience even if you could hear it all. I felt it was "a lecture I prepared earlier" ... There was an immense amount of content and he had a limited time so some of the background that would have helped wasn't there.
I think I was ok to understand what I could hear but have followed forum and read stuff for about 6 years
There were bits even I was struggling to understand from the aural point of view - I'd heard/seen a lot before in a meeting so content wasn't a problem but it was hard work at times.
I think it would have helped if he had referred to his slides. I found it difficult to study the slides and listen to him at the same time. I gave up in the end, it was just too difficult to hear, especially as he went so fast. The captions didnt make sense so they didn't help. The bits I picked up on sounded really useful.
How did you hear about the seminar? Is it recorded?
If you are a member of the charity you would have been sent an email about it an inviting you to attend and there was also a post on this forum a couple of months about it. Yes it has been recorded…so if you contact charity you should be able get a link… they won’t have been sent out yet..see post -

Thank you. I am a member but didn’t receive an email. I must have missed the post here too 🙄. I will check out the recording when available.
You will need to contact Fran or Sophie - make sure you are on the mailing list for the charity.
Oh bother! I forgot to check in but then I have a cold and would have found it difficult anyway. Can anyone give a synopsis?
I agree the sound quality wasn’t good and the content rather over my head most of the time. I took a few note but he was talking quite quickly and I didn’t get much down. I did ask a question but it wasn’t discussed. Never mind it was nice to see this man who has done so much work for GCA and PMR sufferers.
