A couple of weeks ago I was put on 40mg of Pred a day for 8 days as "medical management" for sinus polyps. It gave me insomnia but significantly increased my energy levels. I've been back on my standard dose of 5mg for 10 days now and I am still experiencing an energy boost compared to before the elevated dose. I'm waiting to see if I will crash back to the fatigue I had before.

Wouldn't it be nice!!! Does also suggest that maybe the PMR/GCA wasn't fully under control and the burst of pred cleared it out. And of course - 40mg is an excess for mild adrenal deficiency!

That's what I have been thinking, the bucket wasn't empty and this cleared it out. I shall not attempt a taper for several weeks yet.

Sadly, Pred doesn’t knock bugs on the head. The virus or bacterium will carry on its merry way while the Pred might make you think you’ve won the battle.

I thought it would help with the inflammation ?

The trouble is a cough can often be the left over effects of an infection and not actually any germs around any more. It happens to me every so often. Usually in the winter, my winter cough!

It’s not necessarily inflammation that’s causing the cough and it isn’t a case of all inflammation is bad; it can be useful as well for fighting infection. Depends how much increase you are talking about of course. How well do you feel other than the cough?

I feel ok, just a very mucous cough that sounds like I’m a heavy smoker

Is it mainly throat clag or does it rumble up from your lungs?

Not sure , my chest was crackling a week ago , but not now, just coughing up lots of stuff…🤢

If your chest was audibly crackling without a stethoscope and you are still coughing up lots from the chest it might be an idea to get your chest listened to in case something has crept in. It’s better for the doctor to decide if steroids are needed for your chest and give you antibiotic cover, than treating it yourself. Sick day rules aren’t for that purpose really. I hope you feel better soon!
