The amazing Dr Claire Vandevelde, a Leeds Rheumatology consultant, will be talking to us about osteoporosis which we are all more at risk of both with age and being on steroids. Her talk is going to be particularly geared towards those of us on steroids and talk about both drug and non-drug options.
Places are limited but we can probably squeeze a few more people in. If interested email yorkshire@pmrgca.org.uk and ask to be put on our mailing list - you'll get a warm Yorkshire welcome

I'm not in Yorkshire but I would be interested in any kind of resume of the meeting. I've recently suffered spinal fractures and am about to start bisphosphonates. Would like to be on anabolics but was told by a rheumatologist I saw privately that you only move on to anabolics when you get more fractures 🤯I have 6!
I don't think mine are steroid related as I only started on them in August for PMR but I do have ulcerative colitis which is a risk factor.
PS: My mum was a Yorkshire lass until Teeside was invented and I went to school in Yorkshire so I do feel a bit Yorkshire!
You qualify for a Yorkshire passport then but even if you didn't you'd be welcome. Dr V will not be able to answer individual questions. Not sure what you mean by anabolics - do you mean biologics such as romosozumab?
It's a complicated srea as there is a vast array of different drugs on offer. I have no idea why some people are offered those and others bisphosphonates/infusions. I'd give the ROS nurses a ring they're the experts.
Thanks. I’ll just come and listen. Knowledge is power right 😊👍. My last Dexa was the same as the one about 3 years ago - osteopenia - so I’d like to keep on top of it if possible 😊.
Thank you for highlighting and offering this Unfortunately I cannot attend, but I definitely would like to know what can be learned. I’ve recently been told I’m borderline and it suggested that I have the annual injection. I would like to know what the alternatives are. So if Dr Vandvelde is willing to have her talk shared out, I will most appreciate it.
If you want to know about alternatives I suggest you go to the ROS website and call their helpline where they will talk you through them - they are brilliant.
