Now you have asked, you can see related posts but might be useful to know what dose you are on now -how you tapered -and has anything else significant happened recently. A virus or vaccine etc?
Hi DL & Snazzy, started PMR mid July 2024 onto Preds 27 August at 15 after 5weeks I went up to 20 as my phenytoin stopped the preds from working I reduced Oct 24 down to 15, Nov 25 to13.75, Dec 6 to 12.5, Dec 26 to 11.75, due to go to 10 on Jan15 .
I had my hearing aids adjusted on Thursday & that is taking some getting used to, seems very noisy & strangely since then my tinnitus seems worse. Annoying
The dizziness means I can walk but be careful & keep close to a walk in case of a wobble. Also sitting down a constant slight dizzy feeling . I don’t feel quite as bouncy as I should.
Could be you getting used to hearing aids and increase in tinnitus-hope it soon settles.. But agree you do need medical input especially are you are going to be away for 6 weeks.
I blame being upside down…and travelling up and over Tākaka Hill yesterday - once in one day is bad enough, but twice! 😳 but did get to paddle in the sea.. have amended suds!
You were in NZ? Near Nelson on South Island? Fantastic have a great time ( we backpacked around Oz & NZ when in our early 60’ s & our family live in Brisbane) Have a wonderful time, bosh to the PRM & other stuff!!😄
Dizziness can be caused by different things and can be subtly different as a result. Does it feel like the rest of the world is moving? Is it worse when you move your head? How are you when you go from sitting to standing? Have you had a virus recently of have mild symptoms of one?
A quick update. I’ve spoken to 111 and after a long phone call I was told there re no redlines ((which put my mind at rest) and that they have arranged for the GP to ring tomorrow. I will wait until then, my head is slightly woozy and I’m a bit stumblely but otherwise I’m ok.
Hi Ginntonic, we're the same age and similar problems. My son bought me a couple of Trekking Poles. They give me that extra bit of support and secutity if i have a wobble, and result in an increase in the distance i feel comfortable when out walking.
I've found a walking stick to be invaluable when out walking if I feel at all dizzy. You can get folding metal ones, and I keep one in my small back pack, along with a small bottle of water, and some painkillers for my back, if I ever go sight seeing, as I find I get very tired very quickly nowadays. That's when the dizziness can get a little scary, and that's when I deploy the walking stick.
I hope you have a good holiday, and you'll have to let us all know how you got on when you return.
Update: surgery rang this morning early with an appointment at 10 am & after examining bits of me the GP thinks I have sinusitis which links back to the ears and could explain the balance and also why my newly adjusted hearing aids seem not to be working as they should
She has given me enough steroid nose spray for 6 weeks with instructions to taper at 4 weeks if all is well. She told me not to be worried that it is a steroid! I did reassure that I was ok with it.
Oh and today ironically the balance problem is still there but not as bad.
