I am under instructions from jinasc to post the information in the statement by the NHS about the NHS recipients of Honours in the New Year Honours List:

That is wonderful news. I know when I was Dx with GCA in 2019....I'd have been completely in the dark without his work and the vibrant NHS research headed by him (I understand) and the goldmine of Health Unlocked....sharing information and support. ππππ
Yes, so well-deserved! I was diagnosed by Professor Dasgupta with PMR and later on large vessel vasculitis. His dedication and lack of hesitation to involve the hospital multiple-disciplinary team was exemplary. Even now, in βretirementβ, he works tirelessly to improve outcomes by continuing his lifeβs work in research.
Thanks 123-go for your tribute to Dr Dasgupta. I watched a You tube of his and was not so convinced with some of the things he said about diagnosing patients and the guidance he gave to other clinicians. I found Dr Hughes You Tubes much more encouraging but your first hand report about Dr Dasgupta has put things right in my mind. He deserves his award.
My husband was also a Bengali like him so I can imagine he had to work hard to get his research and views recognised and valued in the early days. Let's hope Dr Hughes gets an award next time too. PMR needs more research and understanding all over the world.
A hopeful and pain free New Year to everyone with successful tapering of course.
I speak from my own experience, Motida π. Some of us may feel a rapport with certain doctors while others have their own preferences. In my case, the trust I felt gave me confidence and I didnβt ever feel the need to doubt decisions made for me. π»
Thanks for sharing. It is always good to hear or read members' actual experiences. Thank goodness you had the opportunity to see him and to go forward with his treatments and advice. In saying that, we all benefit too, from our two superb and ever generous advisors on our forum and all the others who share their knowledge - pro bono. We are so fortunate.
Great news! It's good to know that these awards are still given to those few who actually go above and beyond the basic requirements of their job. Truly deserved.
Luckily most who do that in the UK do half and half to keep up-to-date. If you were already with them it isn't too bad - tough if you are new to the game.
I liked and trusted him. His replacement was useless and didn't like me questioning him. He seemed to be fresh out of university so relying on GP atm. GP has agreed to be my rheumie and has read up accordingly. I see him this afternoon finally after my GCA flare.
