After Prof Dasgupta's webinar last week there were more questions for him to answer than there was time for. He has kindly written replies to these questions and they can be found here: pmrgca.co.uk/content/profda...

Thank you, that's excellent.
Some very helpful information there. I asked a couple of questions about depo-medrone injections but can't see any answers about them. He mentioned them a few times in his talk yet they are rarely offered as an alternative to Pred.
Hi tangocharlie, I'm sorry your question seems to have been missed. I know he intended to answer all of them but I also know he's really busy in clinic with a depleted staff due to the virus.
I'm pretty sure you're a member of the charity so perhaps it's a question we could put to Dr Sarah Mackie in "Ask the Rheumatologist..." in the member magazine? We're sorted for the next edition which is being put together this week but if you message or email me with a question it can be considered for the winter edition.

Thanks Fran, she is my rheumatologist so I will ask her about it I'm really surprised D-M injections are not more widely prescribed for PMR as they have all the advantages and far fewer side effects compared to oral Pred.
Tangocharlie, What way do they work? Is it something they taper like the pred? The same kind of doses? Tks.
Look for Admiral06's posts - he wrote about them in detail.
Sarah doesn't use them much, I have discussed the problem with her - but Prof Dasgupta was the person in the UK who did a study with them and talked about them originally. If he could find time it would be excellent, even if it is just a short outline.
He was just a bairn - nearly 40 years ago in Brighton!

Yes it's thanks to the info you posted on here PMRPro that I got to know more about them and pressed to get them. I'm in the process of moving back to SM as she got involved trying to sort out a problem with my last rheumatologist. She says she hasn't really used them but I think they could help so many people, I'm surprised they're not offered more frequently. The only snag, as Dr Dasgupta points out is the hassle of having monthly injections but that's a small price to pay for drugs which work much better and with fewer side effects.
Hi Tangocharlie,
Your question and answer is on the website - 6 questions from the bottom! pmrgca.co.uk/content/profda...

Ah yes, thank you silly me didn't notice it - that old PMR brain again! Thanks for that PS and yes I'm a proud paid up member of PMRGCAuk and do what I can to help!
VERY helpful. Thanks 👍
I do think it's incredible that you got hundreds of people listening in, well done again to everyone involved
The question I wanted to ask but forgot was the very first on the website. Thanks to everyone involved in the webinar.
Thank you for posting this.🌸
The above mentioned link appears to be dead. Is there an updated link to this Q&A?
Thanks!
Chris
Hi Chris, I don't think there is. They appeared on our old website and I don't think they were copied over to the new one. Some of the questions appeared in our member magazine - if you are a member and you still have past copies I can find out which edition it was - possibly the summer or winter edition from last year.
Thank-you both for the responses.
I am not a member... yet. I am in the US and am new to the PMR club having been given a preliminary diagnosis by my GP back in February. I have an appt. with a Rheumy a week from tomorrow as it took nearly six months to get it. After being all over the place with Prednisone dosages due to inexperience on the part of my GP, I discovered this forum which has helped stabilize things for me quite a bit.
It looks like I'll have to forgo the information from Prof Dasgupta. Maybe I can catch future webinars, etc. from him. He sounds like an excellent resource from my reading on the forum.
Kind regards,
Chris
