I was wondering how important it is to take Omeprazole or similar stomach protection whilst on Prednisolone. Personally I just ensure I eat before I take it and so far have not had any issues. I’m interested to know how others feel.

Omeprazole
A lot of people get away with yogurt. If you are in U.K. and have the coated version of pred you should not need to take anything to protect your stomach.
I had a bad reaction to it. Really severe diarrhoea. When I rang the doctor he said that’s really common & advised me to stop it immediately. He then prescribed Lansoprazole as CV an alternative at a much lower dose (15mg every other day).
I eat so much yogurt that I now make my own.
I’ve wondered if I don’t need a gastrointestinal tablet because of this.
Morning,I was prescribed it when I was on heavy 60 mg dose.Did as I was told and took it,but happy to say after advice and reading about it I got myself off it once I got to a lower dose.I take Pred at 2 am with youghourt and happy to say no problems whatsoever.Am not decrying it ,some people may have to take it for different reasons but I am happy to be off it.The less pills for me the better!x🎄😜
I have been on pred for 16 years and only taken a PPI twice in that time - once when on a course of NSAIDs for back problems and my rheumy insists then, and after a cardiac ablation because of the potential of gastric problems due to the procedure. They don't use omeprazole here though - pantoprazole which has the reputation of having fewest adverse effects and I didn't find it a problem at all.
No one offered me Omeprazole when I started this journey years ago - despite my IBS history and having Diverticulitis. Luckily I was blissfully unaware and Pred definitely didn't exacerbate existing conditions. I do always take after eating but I am very glad I didn't have to add yet another drug to the situation! If you don't need it????
