Steroid Card

just reading through one of the links about adrenal glands function and tapering etc. Also read about the different steroid cards….Ive been on pred since end of January 2024, it’s never been mentioned to me by anyone…. where would I get one if my Dr has never given me one? It would have been difficult as since diagnosis I have never had a face to face appointment…..

Perhaps you should have mentioned something to your employer as there are now rules about employing people with disabilities.

Has HU dumped a reply of yours here that was meant for someone else? There was no mention of an employer in the post ...

Probably meant for this one -

Yes, that was the next one I saw and realised. But is this a new HU game?

Could be... just to see if anyone's awake!😲

Special Christmas present, the HU game.

Maybe we should patent it?

Good thinking. I need some way of making up for the Winter Fuel Allowance that the British government has removed from ten million of us.

PMRpro profile image

Kind of them that wasn't it!! Shows how little they know doesn't it - you can be on enough pension to not even remotely qualify for the extra stuff and if you live alone, you have the same size bill to pay as your neighbours with 2 in the house. Though I do agree there are plenty of retirees getting a state pension whose other income makes it a nonsense they got it. Like your average former MP or senior civil servant!!

In fact around two million or more people give their allowance to charity, so the charities now are worried particularly the ones supporting the homeless at Christmas. Just because she earns over a hundred grand a year she seems to think an OAP on thirteen thousand a year can afford to pay tax and does not need any support towards fuel or anything else.

What annoys me is being taxed twice - once on salary and again on pension...

I'm on a bit above 13K but I just got my tax bill for January - OUCH!!! And a letter from the Italian pension lot which I think is telling me I have been overpaid by nearly 800 euros and I have a month to repay it. Never quite understand why WE have to compensate for THEIR errors.

Because they never admit to being wrong . Oh, does that sound familiar?

The Unite union is trying to get something done, but I doubt they'll be successful -

Good old Unite. The government never mentioned anything about it leading up to the election and pensioners were the first people they went for as soon as they got in. I suppose pensioners have the deepest pockets in the government’s mind.

Well some do... but, like the majority of ex public servants, I certainly don't.

It was the comment from someone that pensions were going up in April and that would compensate that made my jaw drop. a) winter bills come before April and b) all our other bills have gone up too ...

DorsetLady profile image
DorsetLadyPMRGCAuk volunteer in reply toPMRpro

Well they are probably hoping a cold spell or floods see some OAPs off.. so they won't have to pay extra on pensions come April.

Win, win situation for our caring government.. 😒

All the same aren't they ... I didn't vote for them. I didn't vote this time, first ever, There is no way the papers get here in time to be sent back by the deadlines so I gave up.

piglette in reply toPMRpro

Exactly. They also go on about the Triple Lock as if that is really generous. All it does is to ensure that we keep up with the cost of living rather drop behind. Of the twelve million pensioners there are probably only a handful that earn more than Rachel Reeves.

I know one ... He gets more pension than my husband ever got while he was working in the NHS!!! Was an Ombudsman.

I know a few, one was an accountant for the Queen! Others worked in the City. They live in my village, I am not actually friends!

I got mine from the chemist. They had a dusty pile of them on a shelf!! Just ask. You could just print one off the internet if you have a printer.

Pharmacy should have issued one with first batch of Pred… so check with them… but you can download one, and if you are a member of the charity, they usually send the blue record card when you renew membership annually.

See this post-

And this from charity -to download card

i asked for a steroid card, and got it from GP and then another came in the post, one emergency one something else. A friend who's a nurse said maybe get a wristband too, in emergency they will eventually look in your bag but may do some inappropriate thing first.

A steroid card was never mentioned by my GP - in the end I asked her as I kept reading about it. She said I didn't need one. A few mistakes later she disappeared from the practice for an extended break and I was promptly issued with a steroid card which I should have had, according to the replacement. I would ask your GP surgery or the pharmacist - they should be able to issue one as well - normally they just send you an email and you can print one out, so it's not a 'card' it just says you are dependent on steroids. I also bought one of those wrist bands that says 'steroid dependent'. Useful if anything happens.
