Have headaches only just come on as you have reduced, or have you had them all the time.?

If the former, then your GP needs to take notice, GCA can affect ears as well, and any new headache should be investigated. Temporal artery isn't the only one affected, and in my case wasn't at all! Nor is it the one that can cause most damage - i.e sight loss.

See this re ears -

Thank you for this link - it is useful. I have hearing aids but my hearing in one ear has deteriorated, despite being on pred, so I wasn't sure if there was a connection with GCA.

Sounds like your doctor only knows about the GCA headlines; headache and temple pain. It can come with a lot more. It can affect any of the arteries in the head and rising from the heart. My early signs were pain in the back of the head in the mornings and hearing loss. GCA or not any new headache needs to considered especially if it is associated with a sensory loss.

If it was due to the Pred one would assume that with higher doses it would have been worse but getting better as you dropped. What dose did you start on? How do you feel during the day in any way.

Hi and welcome now you have come into the light.

As already said - if it was the pred you would think it would have been worse at higher doses. At least - we assume you were started at a much higher dose?

What you describe can also be found in GCA - where is the headache? When did it start?

Is there another GP in the practice you can see?

As I said in your other post:-

Sudden hearing loss in left ear was one of the multiple GCA symptoms not recognised by my GP Practice, leading up to my losing sight in my left eye.

Especially when it is combined with other symptoms, it should not be dismissed

Best wishes
