so you will do 1/4 one day and then the next week 1/4 less for 2 days and then 3 days the next week. ?? sounds excellent. 1.5 Is where I have failed . GOOD LUCK!! you will make it! take your time. 1.5 doesn't hurt you one bit!

Hi, I am new to all this , from September 24, and would be very interested in your tapering journey as I’m anxious about getting it right. I’m currently on 12.5 down from 15mg. You seem to be doing very well 👍

Don't look too far ahead except to take from Harrywogan's story that many people DO get to a very low dose. No two people have the same journey and you really do have to take it one dose reduction at a time - you can't compare yourself to anyone else. Stick with us, ask if you aren't sure and we won't let you get in a mess!!!

Hi newb, it's been 8years for me,had a few up and downs,it's Dorset Lady reduction ,I've done, when I got to 10mg, came down 1/2 mg every week over7 weeks,so new dose Sunday old dose rest of week, next week new dose Sunday and Thursday and so on untill your on new does all the time, then I sit at that for week 8 to see how things are going. I am in about the same place as you! I am coming down off one and a half and so far, fingers crossed, no PMR symptoms. It's tempting to race to the end though I know I mustn't!

Similar place.. now on 1 mg every day… not sure for how long? No actual original pmr symptoms but lower back quite achey. And can’t say I have a lot of energy?! But am 86…..

Sounds good - but do remember that they won’t be working 100% for quite a while even after finishing Pred,-can take up to years]. So maybe have a few to hand in case you find yourself in stressful situations in the future.

I never had any issues, but some do… and fingers crossed all goes according to plan.

how do you get 1/4 of a mg?? My 1 mg tablets are so small that cutting them in half is difficult enough!

Can go with that one.

Waste a lot, and just judge it, not perfect but works or pill cutter xx

Bedwell profile image

Got a pill cutter but they are so tiny! Can just manage a half .. sometimes.. but as for a quarter?!?!?!

Get a decent pill cutter, Bedwell, one with a razor blade . I have been cutting to halves and quarters for a long time this way. It doesn't really matter if one half or one quarter is a bit larger or smaller than the other as you will end up taking the complete dose in 24 hours. We have even been known to lick a finger and pick up the crumbs if necessary !!

If they weren't working to at least some extent at that dose - you would know!! The fact you are feeling less fatigued does suggest they are starting to wake up. And yes - that is the way to go if it has worked so far.

I've tapered to half a mg. This is my 8th day on that dose. I have slight stiffness in shoulders and limited energy compared to pre-GCA/PMR form, but I definitely feel the disease retreating! Onwards and upwards ☘
