Just had my annual review and crp/esr fine. Just trying to understand my cholesterol result, as below. Is it 4.8 or 3.2. Sorry if I’m being thick!

Serum lipid levels

Serum cholesterol level 4.8 mmol/L

Serum HDL cholesterol level 1.58 mmol/L; Refer to NICE guideline CG181 for further information

Serum cholesterol/HDL ratio 3.0 1/1

Serum non high density lipoprotein cholesterol level 3.2 mmol/L

Your total cholesterol is 4.8 which comprises LDL and HDL and another bit related to triglycerides. LDL is the one they call "bad" cholesterol, HLD is "good" but that is a bit simplistic.

Subtract the HDL of 1.58 from the total cholesterol of 4.8 and that leaves you with the 3.2, non HDL.
