Well goodness me. Itโ€™s good to have something making you feel better. I guess the silver lining is that being a medical enigma will keep them interested, but an answer would be nice!

I used to joke with a previous interested consultant* about being a medical enigma. Thank goodness another consultant**-reknowned globally- was interested. The interest and dedication from another rheumy*** continued until recently.

The consultant I recently saw for my review appears to be knowledgable in PMR (I am in remission) but seems to have scant knowledge of LVV. Early days yetโ€ฆโ€ฆ.๐Ÿคž

Happy to hear PMR is in remission and hope he/she finds some answers for you.๐Ÿ’ž

Thank you, Grammy. If she doesnโ€™t come up to scratch ๐Ÿ˜‰ Iโ€™ll be asking questions thanks to knowledge gained from this forum. Realistically, there is a shortage of rheumatologists in the UK, which, if I remember rightly from something I read, isnโ€™t as much due to lack of trained medics but to the increase in rheumatological conditions. Must be something in the water ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.

Grammy80โ€ข in reply to123-go

Well, you have to stop drinking the water and switch to a more 'substantial' liquid. I know; I never felt armed with knowledge until I'd been on the forum...and now I am empowered even to disagree!! Even though the area I live in is actually considered greater Chicago with its cornfields, it doesn't have an abundance of rheumys either. 123-go, I'm sure you'll have a good visit--mutual education.๐Ÿ’ž

Me too. Also drink Yorkshire tea.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassadorโ€ข in reply to123-go

No, I fear Yorkshire tea doesn't work outside Yorkshire in my experience!!!! For international consistency - has to be Tetleys though their new round bags are a bit less exciting ...

Telian profile image
Telianโ€ข in reply toPMRpro

Tetleys every day. Our t bags are still square!

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassadorโ€ข in reply toTelian

Mine are round and a new material, I assume totally biodegradeable, but they degrade in the pot too if you aren't careful!!!

Telian profile image
Telianโ€ข in reply toPMRpro

OHโ€™s cuppa had โ€˜floatersโ€™ this morning but wasnโ€™t obvious bag was split as would have thrown it. I can burst the bag just picking it up (my nails are so long have to cut them every fortnight) so somethingโ€™s changed as the bags are quite flimsy.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassadorโ€ข in reply toTelian

Exactly my point. Which is annoying in the campervan as I use a thermos as a teapot to get more than one cup out of a bag! Don't really like the one I have but made sure I got one with a wide neck. I nearly had a fit at my German friend's - her thermos was a narrow neck and she grabbed the t-bag with narrow tongs - looked like a massive tweezers! - which I was sure would split it!!!

Telian profile image
Telianโ€ข in reply toPMRpro

For sure sounds tricky with the โ€˜tweezersโ€™.

My mistake- they are round! Itโ€™s my M&S ones that are square. Pred head lingering!

It may claim to be made for hard water but it doesn't work well here!!!!!

123-go profile image
123-goโ€ข in reply toPMRpro

We have hard water in our part of the world. My towels could stand up on their own when they come off the line. Tumble drying does nothing other than raise the leccy bill. Good for exfoliating though.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassadorโ€ข in reply to123-go

I love hard towels!! But I do iron my towels - sort of softens them without losing the scrub feel!

Missus835 profile image

Lol bad as my Mum ironing the undies.

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyedโ€ข in reply toPMRpro

You iron your towels! I agree harder towel can be a much better natural exfoliator than all the expensive products in the world as well as helping give your circulation a jump start and terrifying the cellulite into submission.๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassadorโ€ข in reply toBlearyeyed

I do - and teatowels. Just done my all-cotton duvet covers. Nothing like freshly ironed covers that were dried outside!

But undies - get a life!!!!

๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜† It's the NHS you are usually lucky if you get a whiff of salad , and that's usually one lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato smothered in coleslaw!๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†You're more likely to be offered a big pile of dried up roast meat, oily gravy and packet yorkies and some sort of crumble covered in congealed custard , then , if you aren't sensible enough to refuse it because you're starving , spend the rest of the afternoon in the gastro ward in agony and wondering why you got so bad.

AHH, brings back memories of sitting on the wards waiting to be told they've got no idea what's wrong with me and waiting to be discharged.

The NHS really do need to learn the difference between stuffing people with fat and carbs to help people eat and put back on weight and actually helping them eat and put back on weight by not serving up the food that probably helped make them sick in the first place.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassadorโ€ข in reply toBlearyeyed

That is the wonder of our local hospital - there is a choice of 3 different menu cards and you can mix and match. And when it is all looking a bit carby - this is the Italian Tirol after all - I ask to speak to a dietician and they approve orders of double salads! Proper salad - no coleslaw ...

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyedโ€ข in reply toPMRpro

I gave up after receiving one lonely uncut potato rolling around miserably on a plate, even the narky nurse whom initially shouted at me for being silly git the point.I get my food brought in now it's easier than adding misery upon misery.

Since COVID you can't even go down and sit in the cafe or go to the staff restaurant to eat. It's beyond absurd.

( The request on the menu had been a tick for potato , but with no chilli, low fat spread if they had it.......tuna or beans if the had some and/ or salad no coleslaw..... apparently the answer was No , just have this potato!)

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassadorโ€ข in reply toBlearyeyed

They just don't THINK do they? Our advantage is the kitchen is onsite - I've had worse in restaurants!

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyedโ€ข in reply toPMRpro

The kitchen is onsite in Bangor.....which always makes me wonder how the food can be so congealed by the time it arrives. I don't think I've ever had a good set of meals , healthy or otherwise, in any hospital I've been in across the UK, my Dad had similar tales of misfortune.

We've always had meals brought in for us as a family because you aren't going to get better if you can't eat.

My Dad used to tell the anecdote about the time he was in after heart surgery and my Nana fed him each day with everyone else moaning looking at his meals , but the hospital matron would not tick on the chart that he had eaten something and could go home until he'd eaten a hospital provided meal.

So he spent an hour one morning trying to get into two eggs and toast. One so runny to be salmonella in a shell and the other so hard that he couldn't get the spoon in it. He was six foot five and built for rugby so it wasn't a matter of strength. He tried to make soldiers but the toast was so bendy that he couldn't cut it even with his trusty pocket knife.๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassadorโ€ข in reply toBlearyeyed

Now usually I would go for the toast - something very special about hospital toast!!!! Trying to think of something else innocuous ...

I'm not sure I like the idea of being the top topic of conversation county-wide! OTOH - your visit to the ED was definitely "Worthy" as my ED friends often classify them! Glad they are treating the patient and not the condition and listening to you and your how symptoms are presenting and affecting you. With PMR they give us steroids treat the symptoms and not the patient a lot of the time. We get on with it. I am going to "Be More Mary"! Assertive and cooperative with the medics rather than confrontational and disillusioned when they don't hear me.
