yes, my hands and wrists are v painful, my doc says not PMR related. Inflammatory arthritis. I'm not so sure. Both hands exactly at same time? Same pain? Hmm

Yes my hands - wrists to thumbs - are painful. I'm assuming this is arthritis pain as had scans a while ago which showed arthritis. It was masked when I was on higher doses of pred I think but the lower I've got it's emerged again. Thankfully it's put up withable - at the moment anyway - and hopefully will remain so!

Are youbable to take anything for pain, ?

To be perfectly honest it's not bad enough to need to - yet anyway (touch wood)! Not sure how it will go in the future of course!😒

yes I’m afraid it’s a common problem. I have had successful steroid injections in my knee & base of the thumb & slightly desperately waiting for another in my thumb after the last one a year ago. I should have hassled the surgery about it! In my case definitely wear & tear induced osteoarthritis. You can get relief from using the right hand splints. Not related to PMR.

yes! Thumbs, wrists, hips, knees, feet, especially toes. Awful pain, & worse now weather is dropping. Now have bursitis, sciatica & piriformis syndrome, too. I can’t take ibuprofen (but realise others shouldn’t because of pred). I have every kitchen gadget to help open jars etc. I have splints for day time, different splints for night! And now I gave Raynauds syndrome, too, which has worsened this week, & I’m told to get big gloves, & wear them over my splints! But how do I do anything then, I asked?? Ive also got hypermobility & my joints dislocate at will now, which is dreadfully painful! I’ve had steroid injections, but they are limited to a small qty allowed each year, & I have too many places needing them! I broke my Coccyx ina fall, & that took priority & winter not even here yet! Have you tried the cream? It’s recommended & helps many people. You buy it from online shops, & it’s helped a lot of folk. Lost count of times I’ve seen it on this forum, people finding it good. I’m trialling it in a couple of weeks time, after medical appointments for this month are over. But nothing to do with PMR, it’s old age & so many have it! Do you have a charity in Canada. We have a good arthritis charity here!

Not sure it readily available in Canada -  HeronNS used to have difficulty getting it via Amazon… hopefully she’ll see this and reply. But it is good, if you can obtain it.

updated- just seen you’ve found it…

I'm in Canada and recently ordered it on amazon.ca. It shipped from the UK so it took a couple of weeks to get to Calgary. I use it regularly on my feet, which are full of arthritis. Arthritis in other areas is managed with 8 hour slow release Tylenol for Arthritis.

And havebyou used this productvand can recommend?

arvine profile image
arvine in reply toarvine

I have used the voltaren gel im comparison is it safer and works better?

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toarvine

It is different - voltaren is a topical gel with an NSAID pain killer and antiinflammatory in it. Flexisec has no drugs in it, it acts as a lubricant, a bit like WD40 for machines but it is for human joints.

flexiseq.com/

It is probably safer yes as there are no drugs, Is it better? It seems to depend on the person and their problem. Many swear by it, for others it did nothing. You have to try it to find out if it works for you. Like everything really - everyone is different.

Yes. I have had two knees and two hips replaced due to OA. Nothing helped with the pain at all, even morphine. I couldn’t exercise either so the replacements were the only possibility. Then, a year or so later, my foot joined in and steroid injections have not worked at all. The only other option is surgery to fuse the metatarsals which not a very successful op so I am putting it off for now, but I am not very mobile.

Hi to you,yes I am riddled with arthritis and have it in my spine which affects every joint and much worse in the wet weather,I am allergic to all painkillers and can only take paracetamol, every joint screams. Have to take prednisolone many times due to Bronchitecti, that helps the pain but it weakens ones bones. I walk with a cane and find I have a lot of pain but my philosophy is if you don't use it you will lose it,so I hobble as much as I can and count my blessings, I also live on my own , late 70's.Often cry with the pain, not that it does any good.We are all here for a reason and have decided to create my life and not fear it. I hope you soon feel better. We are alive.👍👍
