My Gp doesn’t seem to know the protocol now for testing positive for Covid. Do I up my steroids or do I ask for an anti viral? It seems a bit vague now. Any help appreciated. 🙏

covid
The original instructions were for before the vaccines came online. Now most people have had jabs and rarely get a severe attack of Covid.
The Sick Day Rules back then had a special note for Covid in patients with adrenal insufficiency but SDRs only really apply if you are proper poorly and need to stay in bed or are on antibiotics. That seems fairly unusual now.
If you ring 111 for referral for antivirals most people are told they aren't on a high enough dose of pred and 20mg seems to be their threshold I think.
Do you feel ill?
Been unwell since Friday, cold symptoms, tested negative Saturday, felt a bit better yesterday but it’s mainly the thumping headache today so tested again and both myself and other half positive. 😬
Yes, the rapid tests are a bit unreliable with the latest versions of Covid. My daughter tested for days, opened a new pack of tests and got one negative from the old pack and one positive from the new!! The "old" one wasn't old!!
I doubt you would get the antivirals - and you are on Day 4 really so short on time as well. If you feel really unwell try 111 and ask about extra pred but otherwise play it by ear.
