As I gaze out of my kitchen window over the downs at 4.15 a.m. I remember something a fitness-fanatic friend said recently and which I think should be passed on: she envied my early-morning wakening, and was trying to get into a similar rhythm herself, going to bed early, rising just before dawn. Enjoying the stillness, pre-traffic peace, birdsong, watching the sky's gradual brightening in the east, the colour coming back into the trees and fields. This makes me smile as I swallow my preds and yoghurt. I sleep well enough in the night, apart from getting up for a pee or two, but by 4 o'clock the day has begun and I simply have to get up, leaving dog to sleep on for another few hours. Sometimes I have a nap for up to an hour post-lunch, depending on how I feel. To date, friend's had no luck changing her routine, reluctant to leave warmth and comfort of bed. It's not often that I am the object of envy!

I must admit I quite enjoyed the early morning during my first summer on Pred…. But fortunately got back into normal routine by the winter - those mornings aren’t quite so idyllic !
My late hubby was a countryman, and always enjoyed the early mornings out and about - saying “Mother Nature at her best before the rest of the humans get up and spoil it”
We have to enjoy what we can.. and living in a lovely part of the country [whatever country] we have to think ourselves lucky.
I had many precious dawn times due to Pred. It knocked me out at first after I took it at bedtime but the new day came after only a few solid hours. Once I got to 10mg and less I couldn’t wake up. I too had to have naps in the day. Focussing on those dawns, I felt blessed.
I suspect we are either larks or owls and trying to become the other does not bode well! I am a lark - always have been. Totally agree with sentiment of Dorset Lady's late husband.

Having woken at 3am again - I can't say I envy you! I struggle to get to sleep and often it is well after 1am before I sleep - though usually then I wake later.
Maybe I'd feel different in the UK - it is dark much longer here, no long light evenings like in Scotland and dawn is later too.
I've been working at altering my sleep pattern for some time—with moderate success—but I don't see too many dawns unless I wake up at 3:30 a.m., listen to a book, and realize the sun is coming up. I race back to bed until 8 a.m., pretending I didn't see it!! Hopeless!! 💞
