A holiday is good as a rest…listen to your body

Just came back from two weeks in Cyprus after being diagnosed with PMR in March this year. On 17.5mg of Pred after four weeks of 20mg. Hoping to taper to 15mg in 2 weeks.

No pain while on holiday apart from back ache from the travelling and sitting with sore right glute. Bought myself a pilates mat while there so did pilates twice a day ( only 15 minutes) to ease my back. Very restful holiday enjoyed the sun and plenty of shade, felt it was what my body needed.

Been back two days did loads of washing, housework ( husband stayed at home but doesn’t do any housework) tided garden etc etc. Last 2 mornings shoulders hurting, glutes sore so I think it goes to show doing too much really has a knock on effect so I’ve now realised I can’t carry on as I did before. Feeling tired more now so will listen to my body and pace myself. A LESSON LEARNED.

Glad you enjoyed holiday… shame the return was so ‘overworked’… 😳

Yeah - my husband didn't do housework. So neither did I beyond the absolute basics. I managed to get a cleaner for a couple of hours a week, now it is just 1. She does the vacuuming and one other job I find difficult because of PMR. And gardening had to go by the board - luckily here I only have a balcony!!

Glad to hear you enjoyed your hols! I’m in Cyprus atm and also survived the journey which I was extremely anxious about.

I too overdid it without realising, thinking I could keep up with others, but I hadn’t planned for the wall I hit after a few days.

I just had to opt out and do virtually nothing as I was so devoid of energy. It’s been quite a shock and yet another learning curve.

We are still here for another 2 weeks but I will definitely pace myself differently and enjoy what I can.

I’m actually chuffed that I made it at all as I didn’t think I’d get on another plane when both PMR & GCA literally floored me last December.

All the very best to you x

I’m so glad you made it and enjoying your time there. I did have quite a few lazy days there and read a lot. I found just having the sun on my body helped physically and mentally. I took a travel gel cushion ( from Amazon) that I could fold in half for the plane. Since loosing weight I don’t seem to have the padding I use to have in my sit bones although I’m sure it will come back having gained 4lb since I’ve been away. Hope the rest of your holiday goes well and you pace yourself. It’s a lovely country. Best wishes Tina x
