Help for a friend

Friend of mine been diagnosed with pmr. First contact with her doctor looked hopeful, although only prescribed 15 mg. She was then told to start reducing immediately down to 2 and then none at all this was over a seven week period! I said she would be heading for a fall, and lo and behold all the symptoms returned. She went to see another doctor who has put her on 20 which kicked in immediately. I used Dorset Lady’s helpful timetable on slow reduction and she is keen to follow suit. Could you supply your helpful rota please Sue. Thankyou.

It does worry me when you hear about doctors who it seems really do not know what they are doing. Particularly as they could be causing a lot of pain to a patient.

Absolutely, Healthunlocked was a boon for my three and half year journey and the helpful comments made along the way. Doctors are hellbent on trying to reduce you too early. As I have now gone down with thyroid problems without a satisfactory conclusion I really at my wits end.

I shudder sometimes when someone new comes along and they tell us some of the total garbage that a doctor, who should now better, has told them.

Sorry to hear about thyroid issues -we have a few members on here with thyroid problems so always worth asking or maybe look at Thyroid UK forum -if you haven’t already -

Yes... so maybe ask any questions on here - and say you'd like answers in plain English , non-medical speak!😏

We heave a family trait of dodgy thyroids... both brothers had operations for over-active ones... and my good old mum being super vigilant realised I had issues when I was around 18 years old [being much younger than other siblings] - and prompt action and a short sharp blast of radio-iodine therapy on a slightly overactive thyroid sorted mine out - luckily.

So I have some knowledge - but probably not enough to help...

Oh dear! That doesn't sound right. I was started on 15 at the end of October 2023 and it worked brilliantly but thank goodness was not made to taper so quickly! On Sunday I will go down to 8.5 and so on. Doc is OK with that and letting me get on with it. It's such a lottery which GP you get.
