My nine year old Grandaughter has Slapped Cheek Disease. I am on my final 3mg of Pred a day for PMR. Is it ok to be in contact with her. Thank you. Jenny

Slapped Cheek Disease
Once the rash is showing, your granddaughter shouldn’t be contagious, but paperwork does say anyone with weakened immune system should seek medical advice if they have been exposed to virus.
So perhaps wise to check with GP or nhs 111…
There are a few related posts to view. This is from a couple of years ago -
If the rash has already appeared she is no longer contagious - the risk of catching it is always before that comes out so you don't know they have it!
What a dreadful name for a disease 🙁
It's because that what it looks like - also known as Fifth disease and officially as Erythema Infectiosum!
"Fifth disease is a mild illness caused by a virus called parvovirus B19. It is rarely serious. Its most obvious symptom is the bright red rash or “slapped cheek” look of the face."
What is the disease?
I just saw this on doc Martin!
