Egg allergy

Hi. I had pmr for 2 and half years but have been clear for 11 months now thanks to all on the forum and Dorset Lady for my slow taper programme. I think i am now getting an egg allergy since and during having PMR as i had a lot of trouble with my eyes during the illness and went to hospital on 2 occassions thinking i had GCA but it was all ok. Having read about the allergy its apparently due to problems with the immune and digestive system. Treatment is with antihistamines like hay fever tablets. I had an egg for breakfast yesterday and my eyes were very watery and i had a runny nose all day. Very uncomfortable especially as i was out to dinner.

I am wondering if anyone has experienced this during their PMR and maybe it should be be considered if eyes do play up during pmr it could be this and not GCA as i kept thinking i had at the time.

Wishing you all the best on your PMR journey.

A lot of us have found we developed allergy symptoms to various things as we reduced the dose of pred. It is worth trying an antihistamine - Lidl sells loratidine very cheaply and is what I use (Boots is downright extortionate for the same stuff!)

However, if you really think you have become allergic to eggs, you do need to speak to your doctor as that can cause real problems and it would be a good idea to investigate if it really is.

Many thanks. I will get to the Dr and see what he says. Took me a while to connect what might be making my eyes so bad. Ive never suffered from hayfever although one of my sons does.
