random cortisol result?

hello all, I had a random cortisol test at 8am a couple of days ago, I’m down to 4.5mg at the moment.

The result has come back as 292nmol/L. There isn’t any values given in the “range” info.

Does anyone know what this means, I have an appt scheduled with my Rheumy at the end of June but would like to have a heads up on what this could mean?

Thanks

A basal cortisol level like that while still on 4.5mg pred is really encouraging that your adrenal function is starting to return.

If you had had a result under 100 it would have suggested adrenal insufficiency. Had it been over 450, that is absolutely normal. As you reduce the pred dose, the cortisol level should increase slowly towards that 450 level. If it stays under 400 by the time you are off pred they should then do a synacthen test to be sure the adrenal glands have some reserves of cortisol to fall back on in emergencies.

Great, many thanks for that…

Touch wood, so far I haven’t experienced the crashing fatigue as some others - albeit have noticed a lack of energy and focus at times……..

But hope things continue at best 👍
