Previous dexa scan in 2021 said my t score -2.0. Last month I had a dexa. I can see my recent dexa scan results on the NHS app. It said L2 spine t score -2.6 .and there is a section which says’technical comment-pls see the L spine results sheet’ The separate mailed letter from hospital said my results are -1.8 therefore osteopenia.
Can osteopenia improve after a few years?
Can I have osteoporosis in just one part?
Why no mention in letter of L2 score?
Has it been missed?

Osteopenia CAN improve. If the scans were done on different machines or by a different operator, the exact figures may be a bit different,
Yes, you can have one area where the bone density is low enough to be classed as osteoporosis.
If just a single vertebra is low they may decide a score of barely into the osteoporosis range doesn't mean the rest of the good results are negated because the amount it is low is within the error for the test. These aren't absolute values, they are relative to normal and -2,6 isn;t significantly different from -2.5 which is osteopenia.
But you would have to ask the reporting doctor who signed it off. I doubt the GP will have any idea!
Just found this which is a good read if a bit tough maybe. It explains the variability in the numbers and why they aren't to be taken as written in stone gospel!
