Question of technology- is it possible to have Health Unlockrd comments and questions read out like in a podcast? Vision is not good and getting seemingly worse. But I can listen to Brian Cox ,PhD. Physics lectures almost every nite while lying down on to sleep and get a great deal of information over past four years, but can't figure way to listen to Health Unlocked. Would love have this as I go to.H U almost daily. Thank you

For a start - can we ask you to retitle your post to give an indication of what you are asking? It does make a difference as to who reads your post.

Not being at all techy - all I can say is that there is software that allows you to read websites. Some are free for certain options, others you subscribe to to be able to read anything.

Is there a charity for the visually impaired in the USA? In the UK I would contact the RNIB (Royal National Institution of Blind People) to see of they have someone who could help.

This may be helpful with a list of screen readers

That’s a bit advanced for HU.. they struggle with the simple straightforward things some days….

Think you’d be more successful trying to sort out technology on your devices… one of our US members   Grammy80 does use aids[ have tagged her in this reply] so she will be notified and may be able to help.

In the UK we would go to RNIB for advice _ sure you must have similar organisation in US

This is a UK site, but it does give some suggestions…

And as PMRpro has requested - if you’d given your post a more meaningful title, you may have brought up related posts…

You might want to look into getting a screen reader or some screen magnification software. What kind of computer are you using? Some of that stuff is built in these days.

I second PMRpro's recommendation about getting some help setting those up. Where are you in the USA? There are often local associations. On the national level, you could start with nfb.org.

Alexa has invited itself on to my IPad. I don’t know what I am doing yet and how he got here but he can read my emails to me and he has a nice voice. This may be the way forward. I am sorry I can’t be more helpful.

If you have an iPhone or iPad it already has magnificent accessibility features built in such as screen reader and magnification. It is also possible to read any page without a screen reader by swiping down with 2 fingers.

US equivalent to RNIB is AFB American Foundation for the blind

afb.org instructions there for operating iPhone /ipad with gestures to use voice over.

If the worst comes to the worst you can always select and copy out the text, put it into something like a Word document, and then use one of the 'text to speech' apps available on the web.

If you can get the text into a Word document as MiniSpec suggests, then Word itself can read the document to you. Here's a link to the Microsoft support page; it lists options for both PC and Mac:

Plus I believe that Chrome has a few options for built in readers (extensions) that might be useful if you use Chrome as your browser. Might be good to get someone to help with this though, as I don't use it myself and so can't recommend any of the extensions that seem to be available.

Hello, and I hope I can help enable you to hear the text on your computer. I'm unsure what you have for equipment...so it is hard to address. When I developed GCA, my sight was affected, and my techy son set me up with a new computer. My living situation changed in 2020, and I relocated to Indiana. At that time I purchased a new monitor~amazingly everything, all the programs, were built in to it. For $16.00 I got a microphone from Amazon and plugged it into the USB port. Your equipment may have the text to speech already on it. My four year old computer will read to me. My suggestion would be to talk to one of the Geeks at Best Buy (my go-to). After explaining what you are working with, it may be worth it to have them come to your home to evaluate what you have. It has also been my experience that most teens and folks in their 20s or 30s can apply the same knowledge to your computer they have gained from constant cell phone usage. Hopefully, you know some folks that age that can lend a hand. Hope this helps💞

PS There are also ways to enlarge the print...very large and also different color combinations can be applied that make it easier to read, i.e., yellow print on a black background.
