ibuprofen

Quick one, I hope. I have back pain from a muscle strain. I read - too late - that you shouldn’t take ibuprofen if you are on Corticosteroids. I am on 7.5 mgs. Can I ignore that for a few days. Or is that very unwise? Thanks as always.

It's not recommended to take together as both can cause stomach issues.. but a short sharp burst may be okay - do you take any protection for stomach - a PPI - like omeprazole or similar?

Maybe use ibuprofen gel rather than tablets - doesn't get absorbed in same way, so less harmful [ but still not 100% safe!]

Thank you. Yes, I have omeprazole. Before or after the Ibuprofen? I tried gel but not effective. Seen two osteopaths but looks to be a bit more stubborn that 2 visits so far.

If you take omeprazole daily - then keep to usual routine, the idea is it should last for 24 hours once it has got into your system. How often are you taking ibuprofen?

If you take PPI in morning, then ibuprofen 30mins after... if you need to take more ibuprofen, then maybe with a spoon of yogurt...

thank you, once again. T

Ok. Will do. I am big on yoghurt. The ibuprofen 200 mgs is ‘long lasting’ ie 4 x 200 mg tabs a day max. Thank you.

a pharmacist told me try it for 5-7 days, if any stomach issues, stop immediately. I took it for a short while, worked fine, tummy ok.

Taken with food, just for a few days and with a PPI it is usually not a problem. Stop if you do have problems.

How are things otherwise?

Thanks for asking. Wife much, much better from the head injury. Clot shrunk by 80%. Stress beginning to reduce and commensurately the pred to 7.5mgs as a stable dose. If I could get back to 5 I would start to feel more relaxed on that front as a less than significant dose. Back problem is really caused by rubbish posture peering at work on computers. New cataracts miraculous. No further worrying head (throbbing temple) issues that raised the GCA spectre. So far. Would be good if I could get some clear water to run a dead slow n stop. We’ll see. But thanks so much for yours, DLs, Sheffield and many other wonderful people who help us feel not isolated and improve our quality of life.

a bit more detail - some occasional malapropisms(!), some background headaches, some variance in BP, as brain reoccupies original position having been displaced by (originally 2.2cms). But all going in the right way, and the last displacement was .4cms, and neurosurgeon said no further scan needed and a last expected follow up in 3 months. So great! Thanks so much for asking. 🙂

So glad it is all going the right way - could have been so much different. Give her my best wishes.

I have a tendency to have gastro issues, so Ibuprofen is a real no-no for me. I use a cream/ointment one of the early members, jinsac, recommended;it is called FlexiSEQ and I get it on Amazon. It works like a champ... everywhere~!💞

I had a back-op in the 90’s but good recovery thanks to physio. It does however play up if abused or I get lazy re morning stretching excercises. Ibuprofen has been my go-to but since PMR I have returned to using a massage machine with very good effect. Mine is a Shiatsu Massage Pillow - £39 on Amazon uk. (Ok it’s not as enjoyable as a blonde masseuse but my lovely wife having died a couple of years ago it does work!).

Hope your back improves soon.

I’ve just been to Norfolk recently and bought some lavender CBD oil (contains cannabis oil), which takes the edge off muscle ache. Internet states don’t use for more than 5 days and can affect liver, so I’ve been careful. Also smells strongly of lavender! However good at bedtime/at home days and easy to wipe off.

I have subacromial bursitis in left shoulder - had steroid jab … I use Hot Hemp Cream from Amazon - I find it really good and pain relief quite fast and long lasting. ⭐️

OK - Another one to try - thanks! BY THE WAY, I had bursitis and they di the same with me, a long lasting and short acting steroid injected - no sign of pain for 7 years since then.

Oh that’s good news! I had mine 8 days ago and it still hurts! I guess it’ll take 2 weeks to kick in properly!

I think it took a while. Well done for taking action. Did you have the injection with 2 x (length of action) steroids? Hope it gets v good.

I had to return to the sports doctor who diagnosed another area that needed an injection too! It’s much better. Still hurts when I carry and lift stuff so I try not to! He’s very good - highly trained and lectures to medical students. Also very kind too!

good! My guy had an accomplice. He had the syringes and the other man did the ultrasound to guide him - was it the same?

autumnlass profile image
autumnlass in reply to Predderman2020

No - it wasn’t the same person. I did have a physio who did that but I found he ripped me off excessively …. I subsequently went to a Healthcare Practice where a visiting GP and also sports doctor gave me these treatments. I wish I’d gone there in the first place!
