MorningI had my O.H review yesterday and the lady was good.

I'm hoping to return to work next week but am also anxious my job in mental health is stressful and at times dangerous and I'd be lie if I said I was 100 % sure . she has put down for me to be able to take a rest if I get tired but .. im starting to get very achey shoulders and stiff kneck but this could just be nerves. guess I won't know if I don't try..

Hello there. Am I right in thinking you were diagnosed less than a month ago? What dose are you on? On what grounds are you considered to be ready to return?

On the face of it, it seems far too early. How does your day go at home? How do you feel, really?

I was fully diagnosed last week but went on pred 5 weeks ago as precaution . I feel ready in someway BUT also now time is near worries the shiftsvarev12.5 hours and if ward unsettled very full on...

I've never been one to sit around so I think mentally it's having a negative impact.

I have 52 hours AL which I have asked to take start next week but my matron said No but my manager is going to phone HR...

AL? Well actually think you should still be on sick leave…

You will have to see how things go, but a 12.5 hour shift with ‘full on’ issues in my opinion will be too much…

I understand you want to get back to work… but that’s a heck of a leap from being at home and pootling around at your own pace to a potentially very stressful situation.

But as we are always saying, at the end of the day it’s your decision.. and if you decide to return to work - good luck.

MorningI will be on phased BUT have stated I will only continue IF I can..it well maybe that I leave my post for something less hours and less full on.

yes still on sick but manager being arse. Guess luke me they know nothing abt it and after day shop yesterday with daughter I fell asleep on sofa..so I actually wonder of I'm doing the right thing...

Think you have answered yourself -

a] they don’t know about it,

b] it’s still going to be to much and

c] you have to be sure it’s the right thing [not just wishful thinking on your behalf, and that’s perfectly understandable]

… and definitely the manager is a plonker 🤨

I was off for nearly 3 months from diagnosis, so 6 months in total. My husband used to come with me into the doctors room and when near the end it was my husband she asked if I was ready to go back to work. I felt peeved at the time but he knew I wanted to return but wasn’t quite there. So his reply was no, another fortnight!

OH should be sending you a copy of the report they send to your employers so check what it says.

If you are ill you shouldn’t need to take Annual Leave to cover.

Please don’t go back until ready. Is your doctor understanding?

I agree with the others here, it's too soon. You know that in your heart of hearts. Just remember, however nice the Occupational Health lady is, it's her job to get you back to work. As for taking a rest on a mental health ward, how's that going to work. I need a minimum of 3 hrs nap to function if the fatigue gets to me. As for your manager, again, it's her job to keep the ward staffed. Not to see your struggle!

My cousin is a nurse in a care home with mostly dementia patients. She's just been through hell waiting and working 2 years for a hip op. Ended up only doing two 6 hour shifts a week and most of that sitting behind a desk. She had the hip replacement and is now struggling as everyone said she would only be off 6 weeks. She's still not fit enough to do 6 hrs on her pins let alone 12 and now realises that 6 weeks was really ambitious. Of course they are all trying to get her back to work but only as they are short staffed not because they are concerned for her health.

Everyone is different but only you know how your body feels. I think it's still too early, especially as your job is stressful and potentially dangerous too.
