I received a news article in the Irish Independent on the Sligo Dr. Sharon Cowley who is a Rathlee native, runs a rapid access clinic for PMR/GCA patients seen within 24/48 hours at the Tallaght University Hospital. I cannot seem to find access online so am giving you the pertinent information to google.

News article on Irish PMR/GCA doctor

Marvellous! I was diagnosed with GCA 3 years after the PMR diagnosis, but my "wonderful" Rheumatologist believes I could have had GCA from the outset.

This is a link to the work - and it is indeed a step forward IMHO!

Looks like SheffieldJane was a fairly typical example!
Thanks Pegpowell. I was aware of the rapid access clinic in Tallaght but unfortunately word has not spread to our GPs. I brought an article I found to my GP and she was totally unaware of its existance. I only discovered it 12 months after diganose with PMR so a little late for me. You need to be refered by your GP. The other way to get access is to go to the Emergency Dept in Tallaght. If I ever suspect I have GCA again my plan is to bypass my GP and my local hospital and go straight to Tallaght. There is also a rapid access clinic in Cork as well for any other Irish on here in the south of the country.
