This is just a recoup of my sister story, was told she has PMR and just off phone for advise from me which I don't like, Nurse practitioner call to say something not right with bloods, told her her inflammation was high ,and giving her AA I think and vi D, every thing up in air and she not feeling well ,she on 12 1/2 ,mg and told her to go to 10 for 2 weeks, I said that's a big drop, she's stressed and she has been neglected by health centre, I told her to get appointment with GP, she look ill and feel she could end up in hospital . Just going up to see her, said I'd stay tonight but will see, docs should shot xx

She needs to see a doctor asap - if the blood markers are high the nurse has no business telling her to REDUCE the pred dose. Nor adding other medications until this is investigated.
If you are going up to see her, use your common sense and decide if she needs at the least a 111 call and speak to a doctor, if she is really unwell, then 999 might make more sense but 111 triages to 999 if they think it is too much for them. Fobbing new patients off onto a nurse is not good enough - not that some doctors are significantly better these days!
Let us know how you get on, all the best
Sorry to hear this.
Well NP was probably only passing on what she was told by GP, but you sister does need to seek further medical advice -and from someone who understands PMR.. whether that be another GP in surgery or in A&E.
listen to PMRpro and DorsetLady and your own head. That sounds so wrong . Why would anyone tell you to reduce pred when inflammation markers are higher?
Who diagnosed the PMR? Did the Nurse Practitioner prescribe AA, vitamin D and steroids?
The Rheumatologist told her, she also has Rheumatoid arthritis as well, but she new it was a different pain, think letter came from Rheumatologist ,she's not on reduction plan, just seems to be silly reductions of pred .
Probably the NP (or whoever) thinks it is like a flare of RA, which we all know it isn't. Hopefully she has enough pred for the weekend to stay where she is.
What is your sister taking for RA and how long has she had RA? I agree with everyone who has told you that reducing steroids is not on when the inflammation markers are high.
Well she was on methotrexate for 15 years for RA but have now taken her off it, red blood sells to low so at the moment she only on Pred, now she has PMR and R A but its quite at the moment. X
