mixing coated and uncoated pred

I have now been issued with EC 5mg pred. I have many 1mg uncoated. I’m midway through a taper from 10mg to 9mg. I’ve been told that it is ok mix the 2 types. Taking into account the different absorption rates, is this ok? Can anyone confirm this is the correct information please?

Well you can take both, but as you say they have different adsorption rates, so take the EC ones about 4 hours before [or longer if more convenient] the plain ones.

Some people take EC at night, and then plain first thing in the morning - does that suit you?

But if you are going to be on EC ones permanently then request 1mg and 2.5mg [although the 1mg are expensive in comparison to others and not always available]

Thanks. I don't see any instructions about taking EC ones after food, only with water, so I guess I could take them before I go to sleep and the uncoated ones with yoghurt? as soon as I wake?

That is a pretty good plan actually - several people have used EC pred like that to improve morning symptoms and it seems to workquite well.

Sounds good....

There is nothing risky about mixing them but the absorption times do make a difference to the peak levels in the blood. Many people do mix them successfully though as DL has explained. Really you have to try various timings or take them at different times as DL suggests.
