Hello again. I am turning to you because there doesn’t appear to be a forum for Meralgia Parasthetica and I know you understand how demoralising and hard it is to have another diagnosis piled on top of PMR.. Does anyone have experience of this and any advice. This is my third day and night of excruciating pain. No sleep or relief. I have a pain dr telephone appointment in Feb. It’s an inflamed nerve in my groin. My rheumatologist suggested increasing by 2 mg with no relief. As you can imagine the pain, lack of sleep and stress has set off a flare. I had tapered to 10 after 7 years and two serious relapses. I am thinking of taking 20 mg out if desperation. I am allergic to the usual nerve meds such as Amyltriptilline and Gabapentin. If there is anybody out there who knows how I am feeling I woukd love to hear from you. I feel better already reaching out. As some of you may remember my 42 year old daughter, mother of my 12 year old granddaughter has incurable breast cancer. I don’t know how much more this old body and spirit can endure. Thank you for reading.x

Meralgia Parasthetica…more and more pain
I really sorry to hear of your latest problem. It's not something I've come across so sadly I cannot help with any treatment options. Sending best wishes and big hugs though to you, your daughter, your granddaughter and the rest of the family. As you know someone is always here to listen and respond, so when you are feeling down you know where we are. 🫂🫂
So sorry to hear all that - and yes, pain and terminally ill family is a very hard mix.
Is it definitely a groin problem? MP can even be worsened by tight underwear or trousers - someone did find wearing different clothes helped a lot. And slightly less pain can feel like a miracle too!
Hi
I feel sorry for you. You are worse off than me.
I got PMR a year and a half ago. Very nicely getting down to 4 mg.
Then on a river cruise this April, I suddenly found that I had numbness on the outside of my left thigh and when I walked any distance it would start to burn badly and then a hot stabbing sensation. Sitting for a few minutes gave me relief but I missed out on a lot of the tours and of course had very little exercise.
When I returned home, I consulted Dr Google and diagnosed Meralgia Parasthetica.
I put it on to gaining 18 pounds. This was a real incentive to lose weight which I did. However the numbness is still there but no burning. It says most will disappear in a few months. I think that they are being overly optimistic.
I am sorry. 😢 I have it to but not through excess weight. I feel like I am being tazered. My spine dr who is a professor says it is inflammation not a pinched nerve and may well be due to the PMR. I had an injection into the nerve in the groin and it was much better for a couple of years but it is back now and I have another injection scheduled.Hope you feel better soon.
