hi

I suffer from episodes of IBS , in my worst times it wakes me up in the night , dry acid feeling in mouth n stomach cramps

I’m taking lanzoprolene 15mg daily and currently in 3mg of steroids , taken steroids now for 3 1/2 years

is there anything you any other fellow sufferers of IBS would recommend to take to ease the acid reflux?

Thank you

Those symptoms sound horrible. I know that Lansoprazole itself can contribute to stomach issues. Look here: nhs.uk/medicines/lansoprazole/

What does your GP/consultant say?

hi have spoken about it before n said to increase dosage to 30mgs , my concern is that it is re occurring n it causes me stress n like a cycle it then brings on thre IBS symptoms ,

That is a pretty low dose of lansoprazole and there is a good reason it was suggested you up the dose, That is where to start. If that doesn't help - ask to try a different medication. But there is usually a method to their madness when they say "just take more".

Thank you for reply and advice and I will up my dose to 30mg , n considering whether to take one dose at night and one in morning ?

If the symptoms are worse at night then you probably do need a nighttime dose.

Not everyone has a good experience, but I have taken Nexium in the morning for years. Otherwise I would have heartburn most of the day.

hi maxistar sorry to hear you have these problems. I have colitis and advised not to take nexium or any of the 'azole' drugs instead I'm prescribed Famotidine and take 40mgs at night perhaps speak to your doctor and give it a try good luck

Hi thank you for your reply , as I discover more about inflammation it truly affects so many areas of our body , I’m starting to wonder what it doesn’t have potential to affect. I will be arranging an appointment with my doctor to discuss my continued issues and the medications you advised , I wish you well on your health journey ❤️

I have IBS, which is mostly dietary related, and occasionally stirred up by stress. I have been on pred since Feb 23 and I haven't taken a PPI for several months now. I haven't had any problems with my GI tract until a few weeks ago when I have had one or two nights occasionally when heartburn has woken me. Though I suspect something that I have eaten, rather than the pred. A couple of Gaviscon tablets has knocked it on the head and I have been able to get back to sleep again. Other than that, I have mostly found that my lower GI tract has been a lot happier on pred. Though I think you should follow your doctor's advice first off before exploring other options.

If you have gastric reflux, you could try lying on your left side. The stomach isn't symmetrical and some sufferers find this helps. Also, you might need to raise your pillows a little.

Hello n thank you for your reply , I have raised my pillows and funny you mention the lying in your left side, which I did try last nite , I’ve lost some hearing in my right ear so had to turn the volume up to listen to library audiobooks tho 😂. Will continue trialling the left theory n always have a glass of water for the middle of the night ,

Thank you

There are several herbal teas that are supposed to aid digestion; both ginger and fennel are supposed to help, and even camomile.

Hi maxistar I know we are all different when it comes to what works for us. For me I've found that natural Greek yougurt works great for my gut health. I always take my pred and blood pressure tablets with a couple of dessert spoons. Not only does it protect the gut but provides you with protein and calcium aswell. all the best
