Morning All

I’m just wondering about my PMR diagnosis. I’ve got all the symptoms, apart from morning stiffness ? Maybe on the odd day I’ll have very slight stiffness & it’s gone In 10 minutes .

Can you have PMR without the morning stiffness?

Yup! It isn't so much MORNING stiffness for many as ALL DAY stiffness. Or stiffness after sitting. And some don't struggle with morning stiffness as such and put it down to pain, Part of it is terminology - doctors and patients have different understanding and part is that a small number of patients have PMR without morning stiffness.

You can see relevant figures in this paper which also comes with a warning: if a patient doesn't have morning stiffness - be very careful with your differential diagnosis as it is possible the PMR symptoms are actually due to an underlying tumour.

Have your doctors done all the relevant investigations for possible cancers? If not - they should.

No they haven’t investigated for any cancers .

They have investigated RA , rotator cuff , lupus & osteoporosis. Next is a vitamin D blood test .

Strange as the Vit d test for me was one of the first!

As it should be - can cause PMR-type symptoms all on its own!!!

I never had morning stiffness. I just had pain all the time before diagnosis and then a slight pain all the time after I started steroids.

All day stiffness here, any time after rest. Although on pred, I no longer make the old persons groanie noises when I get up out of a chair or do the toddler stomp down the stairs.

My experience was more pain than stiffness. It’s possible if there was no pain I would have experienced stiffness. lol But the pain was excruciating and eased with continued movement. If I stopped moving, the pain would return.

I didn't have any morning stiffness, really...then again I maybe did, but assumed it was just from getting older. I am on day 14 of a new job, and NOW I am stiff lol

I had stiffness getting out of bed, getting up after more than a quarter of an hour sitting, getting in and out of my car, though getting moving made it disappear. Any time of the day. I put it down to ageing, but it turned into GCA/LVV, so do be careful ☘

Thanks for the reply . I always find the in/out cars difficult & a bit stiff after sitting for a while .
