I never heard of torn glutes from pred until I read about it on this site. How can you tell if you have torn glutes or if they are just achy from exercise or too deep a massage? Thank you.

How do you know you have torn glutes?
It’s a question of degree and whether it is a few micro tears or a greater degree of damage. I’m my own sport injury experience, if it comes on instantly it is a bigger tear and the muscle just goes into spasm and won’t work. Micro tears cause that we often refer to here as DOMS and tend to come on after a delay of a few hours or a day or two. Tendon and ligament damage can affect the whole muscle and feel like a tear also so it’s best to have someone look at it who deals with musculoskeletal systems as their job.
Why do you ask?
I have a full thickness tear in my gluteus media.. I was doing very well after a hip replacement but I started to get pain on doing anything like cooking, walking and one day couldn’t walk for the pain. An us showed the tear. I was told my muscles and tendons were too weak for surgery and all I can do is physio to strengthen the surrounding muscles. It is really painful and hard to walk. I have been on Pred for 7 years.

My first thought about glute pain on standing is piriformis tightness ...
Thanks for link. I think exercise for periformis tightness and inflamed bursa similar. Will stretch.
