Hi

Please can anyone tell me if groin pain is a part of PMR symptoms ? I’ve been getting it and mobility is difficult.

Regards

Lesley

Both sides?

Had you done anything usual before it started? Even something you consider easy or a one off like picking something up?

It can be both sides , alternates . I haven’t done anything that would cause it.

Alternates with what frequency and how long does it hang around before it swaps?

It can swap sides within a week or so .

I’m wondering if it is to do with my spinal stenosis

That fact that it jumps around makes me suspect it isn’t only PMR but I’m not a specialist. If you have it on one side, you might be adjusting your gait to compensate only to upset the other side, before you guard that instead to start the cycle. I could be worth seeing somebody to see if it is a ligament or other type of muscular tweak that can occur from doing even nothing much.

I had groin pains on both sides prior to my PMR diagnosis

Same.

And I had a bizarre episode, after sitting for a long restaurant lunch of approx 3 hours, of not being able to quite work out how to walk when I finally got up. I ended up doing a weird leg swing.

I also experienced lots of groin pain prior to PMR diagnosis and it presents again (though milder) whenever I reduce my Prednisone dose.

It can be due to iliopsoas bursitis but if it comes and goes that would seem less likely. Joint pain that moves around can be a sign of palindromic rheumatism - and it can be confused with PMR as a diagnosis, we have one or two on the forum where that happened.

Hi Ted

I had right groin pain on walking for several weeks before diagnosis. It disappeared once I was on Prednisolone.

Yes, I have bad groin pain…but diagnosed with bursitis on one side, & sciatica on the other.

I had this for a while and blamed it on my habit of allowing my knee to drop to the side when sitting or lying on my back. I tend to do that if I am sitting on a seat that is a bit too low. Mine disappeared when I realised what was causing it. You could try being careful of posture when sitting and seeing if that helps. The musculoskeletal man that I saw thought it might indicate arthritis in my hips, so it might be a good idea to get it checked out if it persists. As it happens, I do have some arthritis in the hip on the side that was worst.
