Another round of Covid vaccine in UK …..

News of a new variant and adapted Covid vaccine is in the UK media to-day, raising the question for me whether to get it or not. I’m nervous as I recall my PMR starting 2 days after my very first jab (Pfizer) - my system was in a very stressed state at the time.

I am currently half-way through 5-week plan reducing Pred 5.5 >5, going well but aware of 5 being quite a marker I really don’t want to upset the reduction. The thrill of catching the pictured 4.5 lb bass on Friday was quite enough excitement for my system!

I have had the other boosters so far with no problems and a mild dose of Covid early this year.

Any thought welcomed - but sorry to tell you that the fish has been eaten and was delicious 😋

Lovely fish… well done you.

Totally up to you, but as ‘they’ are worried about new strain, probably sensible….

Wow! Great catch. I cannot answer your question in an informed, scientific way. The whole thing at the outset could have been an unhappy coincidence/ final straw type of thing. I would take comfort from the fact that you didn’t react to the boosters or the disease itself - the fact that it was a mild version of Covid shows that the vaccine is working. I will be having my 7 th booster as soon as it’s offered.

They have been saying that the new strain does not have a Greek letter name as they think it is a variant of the Omicron Covid. A lot of people seem to have caught Covid recently though.

My PMR started after my first jab too. But have taken all boosters since without any reaction. Still very unsure about this current one a lot of differing opinions around

I am in a similar situation to yourself with pretty much the same time line and same concerns.

I talked to my GP and Rheumatologist about the new booster, they both agreed that the consequences of catching Covid could be far worse than the side effects of the Booster.

I am having Covid booster and Flu Jab in 10 days time

UPDATE on Covid and Flu Jabs ;- Had both this morning, one in each arm, Covid Jab was modified Pfizer and no choice, I have had Pfizer before without side effects so hoping for same again.

For those querying whether you could have one without the other, you could at my GP Practice as they were given by a different nurse in a different room, and some people were only queuing for the Flu jab

Update on Covid & Flu Jabs;- I have tested positive for covid just 10 days afer having the Covid booster !!!!!

I was in Rome watching the Ryder Cup in very hot weather over the weekend and felt pretty rough with a chesty cough and runny nose, I thought it was either a heavy cold or flu.

I did Covid test yesterday when I returned home, result - very posistive - I am starting to feel a little better now so would suggest symptoms only lasting less than a week.

I know the Covid Booster cannot give you Covid, also; it obviously cannot guarantee you do not catch Covid either, from my experience I have had 5 very unpleasent days, but if that is it for this year, I guess I can settle for that

Sorry to hear that... I heard from a friend whose 9 yr old son has it, and is in hospital quite poorly. Seems quite a severe strain BUT NO GUIDANCE /ADVICE FROM GOVERNMENT !!

Hope you enjoyed the Golf! - I had a great weekend yacht racing in the Solent. Thanks to my brilliant helming we managed 3rd out of 15!

" Seems quite a severe strain BUT NO GUIDANCE /ADVICE FROM GOVERNMENT !!"

Not sure that's strictly true - I am still getting regular updates via email... but you may have to look for it and not be bombarded as we were early days.

...and much of the news media aren't interested anymore....can't blame the government for that.

You are correct, but advice is that it takes up to 2 weeks [sometimes longer] for the vaccine to be as effective as it will be, so you should still be careful.

My PMR started after my second A+Z jab. But I've had all the boosters since, without incident, and intend to have this one too - separately from the flu jab. Several friends have recently had mild Covid so it's definitely not gone away, and vaccination is not only for oneself but to protect others who may be even more vulnerable. And I love sea bass too!

FOOTNOTE Am booked in for Flu jab next week - Covid 2 weeks later. Surgery were very helpful and commented this was a sensible plan given my PMR.
