Suggestions for treating an itchy scalp?

During this recent hot weather in the U.K. my scalp has been sweating copiously at the slightest exercise, necessitating my having a flannel at hand to mop off the sweat. I have been resigned to this, but now my scalp has got very itchy, and I am sure it is due to the sweat. I am reluctant to keep washing my hair, as the hair itself is very dry and that will make it worse. Has anyone else had this problem, and did you find anything that helped you?

I’m currently taking 6.5mg pred a day, planning for my next taper next month. I’m hopeful the slight decrease in temperature may help with my problem, but will not be holding my breath.

You don't have to use shampoo when you wash your hair and all I do quite often is wet my hair and then let it dry. It might be worth asking a hairdresser to look at your scalp - just in case it isn't just the sweat.

Thanks. I shall get OH to check my scalp, although what I can see looks OK. I have thought about just standing under the shower to rinse the sweat out, so will try that and see how it goes.

I used apple cider vinegar to help with scalp itchiness. You have to dilute and put on washed hair then after a while rinse out. I haven’t done it for a while but you will find it on google

Thanks for the tip. I will research, and check my cupboard for apple cider vinegar.

I suffer with this, always have and the only thing I’ve found that helps is a steroid lotion from the doctors. I literally use it about once every other month and it’s enough to get it under control. X

Try T-gel shampoo?

Try a shampoo with ketoconazole in it? Boots do one for around £7, which is half the cost of the leading branded shampoo that has this ingredient (Nizoral). It's an anti-dandruff shampoo, and it will calm any itchiness on the scalp, from whatever cause.

Oddly enough the same active ingredient is used in some athlete's foot creams, so I guess the cause of itchiness is similar in both cases.
