HI everyone. I have another scan next month, and I am not looking forward to what it will say. I found out in 2018 I have osteopenia. My doctor believes I am in stage 2/3 now. I fell 2 years ago on the ground next to my car. I rebroke my foot in the same spot as 4 years earlier from a head on collision. I wasn't thinking about the diagnosis's back then, but now I am!

I have lower back pains between my L1-L4, which we thought was spinal cord issues, but it now seems as it is all connected. In 2018 it was just my lower back that fell under osteopenia, but now i believe it is in my neck, and lower back. Also, I had a hip replacement in Novemebr 2022, and I always have leg pain. I will ask my surgeon once i have the results if this is something that could hurt me as far as falling and it will continue to cause me pain.

I am planning my trips for this coming holidays and my birthday next year, am I thinking to much into this? Should I still plan my trip? I live in Alaska, one of the most beautiful states you can live in. Last winter we had A LOT of snow, and ice and that worries me since I work outside the home.

There is more but I will end it here. What are some tips you can offer to help me not worry everyday until I get my scan done? And After?

Good morning and sorry to hear of your problems. Could you please complete/start your profile as without us having any knowledge of your illnesses, do you have PMR or GCA? are you on Pred? What other medication etc are you on it is difficult for us to give you any informed advice/help.

As Bcol asks do you have PMR or GCA?…more info would help.

Osteopenia doesn’t always turn into osteoporosis- but are you taking medication for bone health… and what other medication.

If you don’t have PMR/GCA, this forum might give more info

I have no idea what he means by "Stage 2/3" - osteopenia is not a pathological state or diagnosis, it is a term used to express that your bone density is lower than it is for the average 30 year old but not as low as the entirely arbitrary figure they picked on as being osteoporosis. I can't comment further than that since you don't say how old you are although if you have had a hip replacement I assume you are older rather than younger.

My husband broke a metatarsal in his mid-30s - and a year later broke it in exactly the same place - it does happen. And the majority of broken bones occur in people with a "normal" bone density.

But we can't say much more without some info from you.
