I hope this is ok to post here…..

Hi everyone, I’m awake again.

The weirdest thing just happened. I can’t wake my son up to talk to him so I hope it’s ok to chat here but it’s not PMR related.

I have just spent 15 minutes wandering around staring at my hands trying to work out why I couldn’t get to Google and my voicemails. I simply couldn’t work it out. I felt really confused. I knew it was to do with my hands so I stared and stared at them, wandering around the apartment. After 15 minutes of this, I suddenly realised what the problem was. I couldn’t get to Google through just my hands because I didn’t have my phone in them! It completely freaked me out! I really hope this is a one off but I’ve been wondering recently about my short term memory. I’m in a bit of a state 🫤🙄 thanks for listening. X

Morning Bramble. That is definitely a tad freaky but perhaps you were suffering from the tail end of a dream or from a deep sleep and weren't really awake. It has not done anything to harm you so, at this stage, I shouldn't worry too much. It is probably worth mentioning it to your son though when he is next awake so that he/you can make a note in case it starts happening again. Unless you feel unwell, different to usual, then it's probably worth having a hot drink and getting back to sleep and see how things are in the morning. If you have forgotten all about it in the morning, then the next time you log on you will see the post and it will remind you to mention it to your son. Take care.

So many of your conditions (and probably medication) affect memory but lack of sleep really messes with it. The perimenopause really affects mine and have been doing some really scary stuff too which has now multiplied on steroids. Your experience therefore sounds ‘normal’ to me but I would keep a log of incidents and see GP if it gets worse. Easier said than done but try and reduce your anxiety and get more sleep. Limiting time on the phone and dr. Google might help too

I had a couple of scary experiences about a year ago. One in particular. I was sitting in a coffee bar and received a text. I not only couldn't read the text properly but when I tried to reply I couldn't find the words to do so. My husband came back with the coffee and I couldn't find the words to explain what had happened. It was very weird but I was back to normal within about 10 minutes. Friends told me I should have arranged to go to hospital for a check-up, but I didn't. I still don't know if this was the right decision. In the end I put it down to sleep deprivation from getting up to visit the bathroom so often during the night, and maybe dehydration. I haven't had another incident since then. All the best to you.....

You SHOULD really have gone to get a check - that could have been a TIAA, transient ischaemic attack or mini-stroke. They can be a herald of a proper stroke later so it is important to check there aren't any modifiable factors to reduce that risk.
