Morning, welcome to the forum. Bit confused about your "weaning" off term for Pred. You have only been diagnosed for a few months, and for most PMR lasts for well over two years, think the average is around five years, obviously some less, some more. You have started on a high dose and suggest you have a peruse through the FAQ's re tapering. There is a lot of other information there as well but don't try to take it all on board at the same time. I would havpe thought your lumber and hip pain is more likely to be part of your Spinal Stenosis problem. I get similar with my Sciatica when it decides to get grumpy. Your present lack of PMR symptoms is, hopefully, because the Pred is doing it's job. It's doesn't cure the problem but just manages it until IT decides to go away.
Does the rheumatologist actually want you off the pred or just to get you down to a lower dose? The second of those two would make more sense to me, in terms of reducing the risk of side effects. I was started on only 15mg, which seems to be most usual, unless you have GCA.
I would have thought I’d been reduced ! But I’m gradually being tapering off . This week it’s 6 a day , week after 5 a day and so forth , until 1 a day for a week . Then rheumatologist said STOP ! Hope everything will be okay !?
Crikey, I hope you will be OK too. I had an idea that we started pred about the same time, Feb 23 for me. There has been no suggestion of me stopping pred yet. When I said to my doctor that I hate taking it and I wanted to stop it, there was lots of tut tutting.
yes strange eh ? I started in April this year . I think I’ll phone my gp and have a chat . Even the pharmacist was puzzled when I picked up my prescription For pred.
I’ve not been told if I’m going to see rheumatologist again !
I saw her 3 weeks ago , so maybe I’ll get a letter soon !? If not I’ll make GP appointment , don’t want to be left without any checks from anyone , like how I’m doing tapering off the preds . All a bit worrying !
