Hip pain

Hi

With PMR you get or can get pelvic pain .

which I do . However since weaning off pred , I’ve been getting pain in right side of lumber area and right sided hip pain .

But I’m not sure if it’s to do with pmr or my spinal stenosis ! I’m on 30 mg of pred at the moment.

I suppose time will tell , once I’m off the steroids ! I don’t have any other symptoms of pmr at the moment .

By the way I’m new to this , only diagnosed in April this year , although had PmR symptoms 18 months ago .

Morning, welcome to the forum. Bit confused about your "weaning" off term for Pred. You have only been diagnosed for a few months, and for most PMR lasts for well over two years, think the average is around five years, obviously some less, some more. You have started on a high dose and suggest you have a peruse through the FAQ's re tapering. There is a lot of other information there as well but don't try to take it all on board at the same time. I would havpe thought your lumber and hip pain is more likely to be part of your Spinal Stenosis problem. I get similar with my Sciatica when it decides to get grumpy. Your present lack of PMR symptoms is, hopefully, because the Pred is doing it's job. It's doesn't cure the problem but just manages it until IT decides to go away.

Thank you for your advice . Yes I mean the rheumatologist is tapering me off ! She wants me off the pred !?

But see how it goes . I’ve noticed that others with pmr have or are on steroids for a long while .

Hi again, apologies assumed you were new to the forum and leaped in this morning and missed your earlier posts.

Does the rheumatologist actually want you off the pred or just to get you down to a lower dose? The second of those two would make more sense to me, in terms of reducing the risk of side effects. I was started on only 15mg, which seems to be most usual, unless you have GCA.

I don’t have GCA.

I would have thought I’d been reduced ! But I’m gradually being tapering off . This week it’s 6 a day , week after 5 a day and so forth , until 1 a day for a week . Then rheumatologist said STOP ! Hope everything will be okay !?

Crikey, I hope you will be OK too. I had an idea that we started pred about the same time, Feb 23 for me. There has been no suggestion of me stopping pred yet. When I said to my doctor that I hate taking it and I wanted to stop it, there was lots of tut tutting.

yes strange eh ? I started in April this year . I think I’ll phone my gp and have a chat . Even the pharmacist was puzzled when I picked up my prescription For pred.

It doesn't make sense, unless he thinks you don't have PMR.

yes maybe ?

I agree - Rheumatologist didn’t actually confirm I have pmr , it was my Gp !

I told her this. So yes maybe it’s a different auto immune disease I have !? I expect time will tell .

I hope they are continuing their investigations if that is the case. Do you have to see the rheumatologist again?

I’ve not been told if I’m going to see rheumatologist again !

I saw her 3 weeks ago , so maybe I’ll get a letter soon !? If not I’ll make GP appointment , don’t want to be left without any checks from anyone , like how I’m doing tapering off the preds . All a bit worrying !
