possible tooth extraction

Have been dealing with GCA and PMR for nearly 5 years…up and down with varying degrees of success! Am down to 4 mgs of Prednisolone and it looks like I may need a tooth extraction.I am sure this has been answered many times but , just to remind me, what is the protocol concerning medication? I am on 20mg of Methotrexate weekly as well as Pred.Thank you.

You are probably better to avoid the MTX for at least a week post-extraction. I have had a few extractions or root treatments while on pred, never done anyhting about changing the unless I felt I need a bit more AFTER the event,

Do ensure that your dentist knows what meds you are on. Mine gave me the numbing injection without adrenaline. This is in addition to the advice you have already received. More precautions are needed if you are on Alendronic Acid or similar for your bones.

I agree tell your dentist about your medication. I had an extraction when on 9mg and my dentist told me to double the dose for that day only, and the extraction was no worse than an extractiton usually is. I later had this confirmed by a pharmacist as good practice - but do not do this yourself without professional advice. I’m merely quoting it as an example of my experience
