Hi everyone. Not quite sure how to describe recent symptoms ( not even sure that symptoms is the right word). I’ve been feeling and hearing what sound like clicks in one it two of my joints. My upper arm/shoulder and my foot. The clicks have been loud enough that my daughter heard them. They are uncomfortable but not really painful. Is this steroid related? I’m now down to 3mg daily. Would love to know if anyone else has experienced
Many thanks in advance

No, unlikely to be pred related - but they are perfectly normal effects of aging unless it is accompanied by pain or swelling in which case you should speak to your doctor:
After sitting still for more then 20 minutes almost every joint in my body clicks and clonks as I get up , my youngest daughter who is still at home says that’s not normal but my GP and Rheumy say it’s completely normal as you get older especially when you know you have osteoarthritis , the arthritis help sites name says it all creaky joints , 👍😀
I click, audibly, all the time…jaw, shoulders, hips…you name it, it can click! But it’s not related to my PMR, I have hypermobility & osteoarthritis! It doesn’t mean you have hypermobility, though!! Or osteoarthritis! Lots of people ‘click’ as they age…
hi, I can relate to joints clicking, since I’ve got down to 0.5mg daily of Pred my neck, ankles & knee click loudly! I was wondering if they were always like this & the Pred just masked it all or if it’s a new condition!!
Thanks to everyone who replied to my query about clicks. Not sure if mine really are in the joints. Who knows? But I did smile to think that if we all got together we would create a cacophony of sounds.
I’m on no medication related to my osteoarthritis, (until it's so bad I cry, when I take Codeine) but my neck and shoulders click on a regular basis.
When hubby and I used to go to Gentle Exercise classes, my joints would click so loud, the class would stop and the leader ask if I was OK, which was very embarrassing! I’m 69 next weekend!
I can't remember a time in my life when I haven't creaked and popped from time to time! My neck in particular is crunchy; I don't like to think about that. I manage my extensive OA with exercise - a lot of different physio exercises have been prescribed over the years. For a long time I did some basic yoga, and nowadays I do tai chi. I take glucosamine, and for the past year or two have been using Flexiseq on joints which hurt when I use them, notably my knees.
When I first started experiencing PMR symptoms prior to diagnosis I had intense clicking in my right shoulder. Of course it was very painful and felt as though the inflamed muscles were unable to support the joint. Once diagnosed and started Prednisone it started calming down. It’s been almost 2 years and hopefully by the end of the year I’ll be done with Prednisone and PMR will be done with me!
I can always tell when my hubby is close by because I can hear his feet crack as he walks. It's been happening to him since his 40s and he is 64 now. No sneaking up on me. LOL!
I was diagnosed in August 2022 and have tapered down to 3.5 mg. Recently, I noticed the same thing! I felt like all my joints were "clicking". I was worried about prednisone impacting my bone density. I asked me GP about it. He said it has nothing to do with my bones softening! He said it is more likely caused by ligaments and tendons getting tight and then you get the popping/clicking. He said not to worry about it!
