Met with Doctor today , he asked me what pain at present time is the worse for me ?
I explained to him the pain in my buttocks especially the right side , when I sit on a hard seat it’s excruciating it seems to go into my hip as well .
He examined me and knew exactly the place where it is coming from , did say some medical terms I should have wrote them down , my brain is fogged most of the time .
He offered me an injection done under x-Ray .
Has anyone else had this done please .
Im getting to be more nervous about procedures and the thought of a needle going in there I could not stand it it’s so painfull .

I have had injections in my buttock for bursitis pain and the nurses were busy telling me it would be quite painful and not to be shocked - my rheumy and I both started laughing and explained to them that the bursitis pain itself was so awful, the pain of the injection was peanuts!
Most doctors will use a local anaesthetic to make the procedure more comfortable - don't worry about the pain, the relief after is usually so good you forget any pain at the time.

I’ve had a few which were fine. Not really that painful, I had a huge one directly into my hip joint which was interesting …. Even that was ok. Don’t worry
yes..I had an injection for bursitis three weeks ago. I also had a depo medrone buttock injection about 10 weeks ago. Both were fine, but I realise there are people who fear injections…but if you find them easy, it’s hard to understand! The pain of injection is so tiny, it doesn’t last more than a few seconds! I’ve been suffering bursitis for six months…that’s the excruciating part! Try to look at it as something great to look forward to…and how lucky you are to get the treatment…because that’s really the facts of it!! I also had a guided injection in my hip carried out in operating theatre, & that was fine, too! You were lucky to get a pain clinic appointment, but perhaps you’d been waiting many months like the rest of us! Just trying to turn it all positive for you!!
Yes I think I’ve been waiting about 2 yrs for this appointment , and this pain for a few years but it would come and go and was bad when I did nights .
It’s constant now .
Local Doctor said it was probably bursitis and to have a X-ray then covid happened .
Thank you for your advice it was just when he said under X-ray I know that means it’s not a simple injection
I was a bit surprised at the x-ray bit, When they get that techincal it is usually ultrasound I thought - my rheumy does it the old-fashioned way: probes firmly until it elicits the loudest shriek. Never misses ...
I met someone for whom good orthotics cured her hip bursitis. When I got it pre diagnosis, but when I did had PMR, I decided to try this for 3 months before having the injections. I think it was helping, but after a month I was diagnosed with GCA & PMR & put on 40 mg pred which dealt with it
Oral pred isn't very effective, it doesn't get to high enough a level in the inflamed area, steroid injections are local and more effective. Bursae, tendons and ligaments are all soft tissue but very dense and as a result don't have a massive blood supply which tends to be further reduced by the inflammation. Warmth will improve the blood flow so in chronic bursitis is worth a try.

I had such bad pain I was getting nauseous. Rheumy took X-rays & gave me a shot for bursitis. After 2 weeks I went to an orthopedic. After their X-rays they said no to bursitis. My right hip is bone on bone! They bone injection did not work. Relieved some pain. Now I’m waiting fora hip replacement. I don’t want shots for 2 years that don’t work. I’m younger now to hopefully heal faster. I need to be able to Take care of my Lewy Body spouse. Good luck.
