A Flare And Other Stuff

So I went to visit my daughter and granddaughter in Exeter (they are from Australia. We stayed in a beautiful new hotel an were there for five days. It was glorious. We even arranged for GWR staff to help with my case and bag

When we came back I spotted a tiny bruise and thought "Here we go!" and then I had aches pains and all the flare things.

I caved in after four days and did an eConsult (love them!) which resulted in my GP calling back within an hour. He is one of my favourite ever Doctor's and in my 15 years in the States I never ever met one as kind, witty and professional.

So a flare it was and he was happy I upped the pred by 3mg. :)

Doctor put a prescription in for Methotrexate which the roomy doomy said he would do a few months back ;) and popped me on Amitriplyne

I haven't taken the MTX yet but took an Amitripline last night and slept really well but had to use the loo for sit down jobs 3 times then back to bed. After a while when I was trying to get back to sleep I had achy "David's little friends" "down below" and wonder if that's just a getting used to Amitrypline problem? I did put a little amount of hemp cream on them and the achiness subsided...

Any thoughts?

I am getting to be quite certain that travelling around will nudge me into a flare...

BUT! this was a train from Plymouth to Exeter and back and we were staying in a wonderful hotel

Yes but it’s still travel, changes in normal day to day activities and meeting up with family - all can trigger a flare. Not stressful in the way we normally associate with a flare -but a change in lifestyle.

Had a quick look at Amitrypline leaflet -and seems to have opposite effect to what you describe- but may dig out the paperwork and have a look through..

Perhaps don’t take one tonight and see what happens…

Glad to hear you enjoyed your days away…

Hi DL... I think it is travel and disruption that affects me for sure :/ But we were pretty stress free except the goodbye part.

We don't do intense travelling or gatherings as I can't take it. Seems weird from an ex pro DJ/MC used to playing in front of hundreds and thousands nightly - it was all easy for me. But if I get in a taxi the stress levels go up...

I am going to take an Amitriptyline tonight and for a few other nights and see what happens. Yesterday I did have a Plant Kitchen meal from M and S which is most unusual for me as it's normally hummus and wraps with fresh peppers salsa and hummus

It was excitement - even if it was good stress, stress is stress.

what dose are you on? I am on 10mg amitriptyline and have had no side effects other than sleeping better!

So sorry the excitement of reuniting with your family has resulted in a flare. I am always ill after my reunions too. I suspect I don’t behave like a sick person. I have never had that effect from Amitriptyline but they are a bit weird and although they promote deep sleep, I got weird dreams. I gave up on them. I am glad you have access to a good doctor and sincerely hope Methotrexate works for you.

My new Japanese style toilet is working wonders for my husband’s haemorrhoids.

haemorrhoids! Oh my I don't have those. I meant testicles but I am always conscious of my words in the presence of Ladies :)

I knew what you meant but not immediately. I think you're fine on a site like this to just say it as it is... can get muddled otherwise. But maybe mention that discomfort to. your doctor.

I knew what you meant immediately - but I did teach medical (and not so medical) English to medical students. It is amazing the words you gentlemen use for body parts ;)

amitryptylline for a few years now…about the onky drug that doesn’t give me side effects…except the nightmares…but that seems more to do with pain (not from PMR) & not being in deep sleep.
