Recurring Sub-conjunctival haemorrhage - has anyone else experienced this?

Getting concerned about a fresh bleed in the corner of my left eye for the third day in a row. I also had a bleed a couple of weeks ago and I haven't dome anything too strenuous - the first couple appeared after walking in the cold air.

I'm currently on 8mg of Pred, due to taper again next week. There has been some concern about my kidney function following blood tests, however had a text message from my lovely doc this morning saying "Good news, your latest blood test has come back as normal for you, and the ultrasound scan is also normal".

My blood pressure is consistently around 129/70 ish and Im feeling much better since dropping to 8mg from 9mg, but I'm hating the bloody eye... any thoughts?

It’s very common with Pred because the small blood vessels become fragile same as bruising you get with it too. Looks ghastly but should be painless after the initial prick feeling or none at all. Mine improved with lower Pred doses but also I was prescribed a watery drop for day and a goopy one for night by my optician because my tear film all but dried out. That really helped.

Once a capillary is damaged it is quite fragile - doubt it is anything to worry about, except the look. Sunglasses????

It can take a number of days for the bleed to clear and it can often look worse than it is or before it gets better.I get these quite a bit and had more when I was on steroids.

A warm , damp cloth as a compress over closed eyes can help soothe the itchy sore feeling .

It is worth doing this even without the bleed when you have this itchy feeling to try to prevent the bleed.

Do you suffer with dry eyes generally?

That can be the cause alongside steroids making little vessels , skin and eyes more fragile.

Good preventative measures are using carmellose eye drops or gel tears each day. Increasing your water intake as dehydration can effect eye health. Reducing screen time. Taking a daily combined vitamin and mineral supplement after your fattiest meal of the day. Using sunglasses to protect the eyes from dust and wind and the drying effect of the weather , even in the winter.

I've noticed that my eyes have been watering a lot recently and I do suffer from dry eyes. I use eyedrops with 0.2% Sodium Hyaluronate as recommended by my Optician. Now going to research your recommendations on eyedrops/artificial tears. Many thanks for all your other suggestions, much appreciated.

I actually have Cellvist eye drops , they are the closest to natural eye drops and come in one use bullets. They were prescribed by the opthalmologist , most Doctors won't prescribe them unless ordered to by a Consultant as they are expensive but it is all that works for me . The gel tears and carmellose drops are probably only as good as the drops you already use , and you may find you want to use them more regularly at least a couple of times a day.

You could also ask your GP/ optician to prescribe Vitapos A gel ,or Hylo night , to put on your eyelids before you go to sleep. Often it's loss of eyelid oils that also cause the issue and lack of vitamin A makes that worse. The gel is sticky so you put a drop on just before turning out the lights. Increasing foods with animal based Vitamin A also helps including eggs and dairy.

This was a repeated issue for me for a period~~I cannot remember the dosage but it was always the same eye. All of a sudden, it stopped as fast as it started with no harm done.💞

I had a whole run of bloodshot eyes for a while. Recently had similar in an eyelid running down to the outer corner of the eye. Am down to 3 1/2mg and no idea what caused this. Not a good look but not as messy as a nose bleed which have also resurfaced! Weak muscles, weak blood vessels - hey ho.

I recently had my 6th since I've been on Pred. It was just clearing up when had my annual eye exam on Friday. The optometrist was a little concerned that I wasn't too concerned, but we talked through my case history and I agreed that when I next check in with my GP I'll mention them again. I've been on 4.5mg Pred successfully for 6 weeks now, and my arms were fairly clear from bruises for a month, so I was hoping that I was going to stay clear. That didn't happen, and my eyes didn't either. Hey ho. The journey continues.
