You aren't reducing the dose relentlessly to zero come what may. You are looking for the lowest effective dose - the lowest dose that works as well as the starting dose did. It sounds as if you have reached that goal - but 8mg is just is little bit too low so you need 9mg, possibly 8.5mg for the present. It doesn't mean you won't get to a lower dose, just not yet.

If you're in pain, why not add another 1 or .5 today?

Further to PMRpro’s advice try one of the tapering plans in future -and probably 0.5ng a time would be a good idea -

you also need to help the process by not overdoing things, particularly when you are tapering - take it easy. Good luck!

I was interested in your post, since I am on a similar trajectory. I tapered to 8mg in early November 2022 and, not only did I start to get more aches and pains, but my hands and wrists started to trouble me (I have commented on this before). My medical centre put me up to 10mg and I felt better. Have slowly tapered to 9mg which I intend to stay on till 9 Feb, when I will do similarly to get to 8mg.

Trouble is, I've got an appointement with my rheumie on 3 Feb and I just feel he is going to push me to reduce more quickly. Well, I'm going to quote PMRpro, DL and Sheffield Jane to him (not literally!) and see how he reacts...

Hi Hippie22 - I will be interested to hear how you get on with your rheumatologist appointment. Funny about the wrists hurting too. I've seen that happening with others on this site too. Glad to hear 8.5 mg is suiting you better.

Not what you're looking for?
