I have been having increasing pain in my knees and finding it very difficult to walk any distance and after sitting for a while very hard to get out of the chair - so I asked my GP for X-rays to see what the problem was as I didn't think it was related to PMR. the results show I have Osteoarthritis in both Knees. I have 2 GP's that share. The first suggested I take Paracetamol ( which doesn't touch anything ) At my surgery you now have to complete an online form to request either appointment or treatment. I requested the possibility of steroid injections and to my surprise the "other" GP phoned me that evening to book an appointment. I have had an injection in my left knee ( given by my GP at the surgery ) and the other will be next week. It is only 2 days but it feels so much better so I am feeling optimistic. If I had just accepted the advice of taking Paracetamol, I would still be suffering.
Knees up !!: I have been having increasing pain in... - PMRGCAuk
Knees up !!
We'll done for persevering!
Paracetamol? Would they use that for themselves I wonder?
I was just wondering that - paracetamol alone does nothing for me for anything unless it is the i.v. version and that IS good.
It is the standard protocol to try paracetamol first , then NSAIDs , diet changes, physio and creams before heading straight in with the steroid injections. They like to see what severity of pain is present and if it can be relieved with other methods , probably having PMR , and already being on Pred but still having the knee symptoms and limits in NSAID use actually sped up the process for getting the steroid injection
Good on reaction from injection, but don't be replicating the picture --please. 🤦♀️
Paracetamol what next!!!!!!!
Flexiseq, works like WD40, not cheap but worth buying one tube to try it. It is a bio-logical cream so no side effects.
I have used it for so many years for both knees and I don't know what I would do without it.
You can read up on it by clicking on this link:

Arthritis UK also has a load of helpful information on Osteoarthritis.
I have severe arthritis in my hip and awaiting hip replacement I also have PMR and after dropping to much the pain then went into my other hip, thighs, knees also. I used a roll on called Biofeeeze after trying all the other creams/ointments and found it very good however upped my Pred to 7mg (started on 15) 14 months ago and most of the pain has subsided greatly apart from the hip awaiting replacement
Love the picture.
Well done but more importantly..........ADORE the illustration! Merry Christmas indeed
I woke yesterday and it felt as if someone had been beating me on the souls of my feet and the bones in my legs hurts as well. I tried paracetamol and later on codeine all to no effect. so today the symptoms persist and I hobble around the house. I have had the feelings in my feet before, but never the pain in my bones.
Will contact my GP on Monday but do not feel that it will have a successful outcome.
Paracetomol has done nothing for my PMR pain either, but I found that taking paracetomol with codeine can help. Personally I use Solpadeine Max soluble tablets as they work in around 15 minutes. Each tablet has 12.8mg of codeine and I find that one tablet is usually all I need to dispel my back and pelvic pain.
Oh, and don't believe the hype about them becoming addictive if taken for more than 3 days. That only affects people who take them for headaches. For those of us who use them to relieve back pain they don't normally become addictive.
I discovered this when I read of a pretty extensive survey that was done a few years ago. The people doing the survey found that people who take codeine for headaches quickly became addicted to them (to relieve the headache that appears when the tablet wears off), but people who take codeine for back pain rarely, if ever, become addicted.
I can testify to this as I've been taking them for around 13 years. However, now that my PMR seems to be slowly receding, I've taken less and less of the 'Max' tablets, and I now only take one if I do anything that stresses my back, and in this cold weather, that's not often.
