COVID & Paxlovid

Well, I finally got it. Seems a lot like flu, but with no vomiting or diarrhea.

My rheumy prescribed Paxlovid, which I started today (1st symptoms Tuesday night). Anybody else been on it? I like what I hear about it, but my chemist had some concerns, which she shared with my wife (I wisely stayed home).

Any thought? Thanks

Hi Winfong - yes l took it along with increasing my Pred to 10mg Night & 10mg Morning - an increase of 7.5mg (Sick Day Rules)

There are issues with it but l had a very good conversation with the Covid Dr & the Hospital Pharmacist. They adjusted my dose slightly because of my Kidney levels.

I was impressed by the attention & care shown to me, mine settled on my chest with a nasty cough & l had to have Antibiotics after 10days as l developed a secondary upper respiratory tract infection.

I still have a residual cough & am a bit more out of breath than l was going up/down stairs etc.

But l felt l got off very lightly 🙏🏼

Hope you do well & don’t forget to take them 12hours apart.

Yes I took it when I had Covid . Definitely helped with reducing duration of symptoms . The tablets have a vile taste though. Don't underestimate Covid fatigue, I am struggling with fatigue 2 months on . I saw my rheumatologist this week and she thinks my fatigue is not all PMR but could be long Covid

I took it with no issues. Other than it tastes awful. All I had was a sore throat. After 5 days of Paxlovid I felt fine. I did sleep more than normal

I had to do that too , just for 10 days . Interesting about reducing long Covid , I didn't know that .

Hi, Winfong, Yes, I had Covid last May, and the urgent care gave me Paxlovid. My covid was a very mild case, and that could be because of the Paxlovid, but the rebound of covid I got soon after the initial case was blamed on the Paxlovid as well. Paxlovid is now fairly famous for rebounds of Covid. Faucci and Biden are two examples. You may have heard of them.

In July I was prescribed half dose of Paxlovid because I was below the 10mg dose of Prednisolone. It got rid of Covid and I didn’t have a rebound.

Hi, I was put on a half dose of Paxlovid because of underlying kidney issues. I felt it helped reduce the severity of my symptoms and after 6 days I had a negative Covid test. After 8 days I felt unwell again and tested positive. Unfortunately I had a rebound and it was 18 days in total before I tested negative.

I got Covid in May and was put on Paxlovid. Covid was mild rehabs because of this drug. Taste like a metal pipe. Lucky me I am the 2% that got Covid/Paxlovid rebound after being clear of Covid with negative tests I got it again but even milder. All good now and at 6 mg prednisone now been reducing .5 mg a month

I had covid a few weeks ago and was prescribed Paxlovid by my consultant not because she was worried about covid but because it took me 8 months to stabilise the PMR flare that came after my last dose of covid 18 months ago and she hoped it would prevent it. The metalic acid taste was awful and i did have Diarrhea after my second dose but it quickly settled. My symptoms were mild and I tested negative on day 6 and have had no rebound and so far no flare. Would recommend it if you can get it.

I had covid last month. My doctor said that while I qualified for it and they would rx it if i wanted, they were no longer recommending it due to the rebound effect many were having. So i declined to take it.

I am 80 with asthma and O2 24/7. My husband 88 came down with covid and we both were treated at the same time- for me as a preventer.

My husband had such a sore throat he couldn’t talk but that cleared. I tested neg 4x. Then 2 days after he rebounded and gave it to me. But he continued to recover unscathed.

I needed the monoclonal antibodies.

Statistically, Paxlovid reduces long covid. A friend of mine lost sense of taste already nearly a year. She never had Paxlovid.
